Note: This article is by Angel Chernoff, in which she shares 20 things to remember when facing rejection.
However, seeing this when you are in the midst of feeling rejected is very difficult. And I know this because I’ve been there at some point. After someone criticizes you and rejects you, you say to yourself, “This proves once again that I am not worthy of this person or thing.”
What you need to realize is quite the opposite, actually-that the other person or situation does not deserve you and does not deserve to be on your life journey.
Refusal is necessary because it teaches you how to turn down relationships and opportunities that won't work so you can find the right ones. This does not mean that you are not good enough, but that the other party fails to notice what you have to offer.
This means that you now have more time to improve yourself and explore your options, and you will be bitter for a while. You are a human being, and there is no soul on this planet that does not feel a small part of their heart broken when they are rejected.
For a short while after that, you will ask yourself every question that comes to your mind:
- What did I do wrong?
- Why didn't they take care of me?
- Why did this happen to me?
But then you have to let your emotions feed you in a positive way. This is an important part: Let your feelings of rejection drive you, nourish you, and inspire you to take the next step in your story. Honestly, if you constantly feel like someone doesn't treat you with respect, find out how they view you.
You may have unconsciously set a certain view of yourself. This is because you are the one telling others what you deserve by showing what you are willing to accept in exchange for your time and attention. If you don't wholeheartedly value and respect yourself, no one else will.
I know this idea is hard to accept, but think about it. Too often, we allow the rejection of our past to define every step we take afterward. We literally don't know that we are better than what an intolerant person told us or a bad circumstance made us feel, so it's time to realize this and eliminate the idea that you don't deserve better than that from your subconscious mind.

It's time to remind yourself that
- The person you loved or respected in the past, who has treated you badly over and over again, has nothing intellectual or psychological to offer you in the present but headaches and heartache.
- One of the most important moments in life is when you finally find the courage to let go of what you cannot change, such as someone else's behavior or decisions.
- Life will present you with greater plans that don't involve crying at night or thinking you're broken.
- The hard truth is that sometimes you have to suffer more than ever to be emotionally stronger than you were before.
- Rejection isn't the end of the world, yet losing someone or something can make it feel like that.
- Sometimes people don't notice the things we do for them until we stop doing them, and sometimes the more chances you have, the more respect you lose, so don't let anyone feel comfortable by disrespecting you. You deserve better and to be with someone who makes you happy and doesn't put you down or leave you bewildered.
- Some chapters in our lives must be closed, and there is no point in trying to fix what should remain broken.
- Inner peace begins the moment you decide not to let another person or event control your emotions.
- You can't take the things other people say about you personally; what they think and say is a reflection of them, not you.
- Those who have the strength to succeed in the long term are the ones who build themselves up with the criticisms they have received.
- Allow your scars to remind you that the harm someone has done to you has made you stronger, smarter, and more resilient.
- When you lose someone or something, don't think of it as a loss; rather, as a gift that eases your grief so that you can walk better on your path.
- You don't have to give up on your goal, even if you have to go through the most difficult roads in order to reach it, so keep your focus and be positive.
- Rejection and the people who rejected you are not so important in your grand scheme, so don't let them control your mind; most of us don't understand how much potential we have.
- Many people overestimate what they are not and underestimate themselves, so don't be one of them; after all, you are yourself when no one is watching. You dare to be yourself no matter how awkward, different, or strange it may feel to another person.
- Comparing yourself to others or other people's perceptions only serves to undermine your worth and inner wisdom; no one can handle your current situation better than you.
- The more we fill our lives with true passion and purpose, the less time and effort we will waste looking for approval from everyone else.
- You can use your struggles, frustrations, and rejections to motivate yourself. You are in control of the way you look at life.
- Sometimes changes in life mean that something better is coming your way, so accept it and don't be afraid to give it up.
- The future possibilities are endless; be strong and wise enough to move forward, diligent enough to work hard, and patient enough to wait for what you deserve.
Conclusion
Apart from every detail, you don't need anyone's lasting affection or approval to be good enough in this world. When someone rejects you, abandons you, or judges you, it's not actually about you; it is about them and their insecurities, limitations, and needs, and you don't have to understand any of them.
Your worth is not contingent on being accepted by others; you are allowed to be yourself, express your thoughts and feelings, assert your needs, hold on to the fact that you are good the way you are, and let go of anyone in your life who makes you feel otherwise.
