Think about it for a moment:

  • Have you ever questioned why you haven't become the person you desire to be yet?
  • Why don't you take the required actions to realize your dreams?
  • Why do you play the victim and blame other people and situations for everything you dislike?
  • What do you lack?
  • What action did you neglect that you ought to have taken?

Your Life and Your Future Are Entirely Your Responsibility, First, Last, and Only. “You Are Self-Made”

When we experience shocks and setbacks, most of us turn against ourselves because we believe that we are the only ones going through hardship and that our problems are the most complicated and challenging.

It is easy to assign blame and avoid taking responsibility for any changes by blaming other people, situations, or anything else. Unfortunately, this causes action restrictions and keeps people from reaching their full potential.

One of the international lecturers said: “Blaming other people, situations, or circumstances gives them the power to oppress you. You must take responsibility for your life and stop blaming others.”

Taking Responsibility in Your Life

Responsibility Definition

"Responsibility" refers to the capacity to respond to proceed. So, taking responsibility means using your full potential and abilities. By all standards, the most essential quality that successful people have in common is their ability to take responsibility.

Also, responsibility means your ability to choose your response type. Responsible people do not blame their behaviors on external factors or circumstances because they understand that their behaviors result from conscious decisions based on values rather than emotionally driven circumstances they are going through.

9 Irresponsible People Characteristics

1. Blaming

It means blaming an individual's mistake, misbehavior, or unacceptable behavior on external circumstances or other people. This may be done publicly or privately to blame others without holding themselves responsible.

2. Over Complaining

Frequent complaints regarding events, situations, and people. A complainant expresses their dissatisfaction about a specific thing or unpleasant experience. However, complaining can have a negative impact on a person's psychological well-being and interpersonal connections because it can cause feelings of frustration, powerlessness, pessimism, and sabotage relationships.

3. Excuses & Justifications

It is a habit of avoiding responsibility by providing excuses and justification, which erodes the respect and trust that one has. This habit could result in missed opportunities, lost challenges, and personal and professional failure. Additionally, the individual stops taking responsibility for their actions and cannot bear the consequences.

4. Playing Victim

The individual blames everything around them, believing the entire universe is against them. Additionally, they are restricted in their actions and restricted by those who come to rescue them from difficult circumstances. They repeat things like: "I wish I lived in a better place;  I wish I hadn't been born poor. I wish my boss had not been so controlling, etc."

5. Criticizing

Criticizing everyone for anything and everything without taking responsibility. This results in generating negative feelings.

6. Comparing

Constantly comparing themselves with others. This sometimes prevents them from taking responsibility or acting independently as they can get fixated on their comparisons and whether they are better or not rather than focusing on reality and pursuing what advances their goals and interests.

Refusing to take responsibility is generally a negative behavior that can cause delays in achieving goals.

7. Escaping

When faced with an obstacle or problem, the person tries to find a way to avoid facing them rather than taking responsibility.

8. Lack of Commitment

The individual avoids taking responsibility or committing to plans and goals, which leads to lower productivity and fewer success opportunities.

9. No Self-Confidence

The individual experiences hesitation and anxiety regarding their capacity to take accountability, negatively impacting their self-confidence and impairing their ability to make wise decisions.

Irresponsible People Characteristics

You Deserve to Be Responsible

In 2010, Apple released the new iPhone 4, which had a flaw. Apple initially made an effort to ignore the issue and deny the flaw. However, soon after, the late CEO Steve Jobs released a press statement identifying the issue and outlining steps to fix it.

This recognition initially damaged Apple's reputation, but it also showed how responsible and dedicated the company is to quality and customer satisfaction. Apple regained customer trust and achieved remarkable success in subsequent years.

Remember

You must take full responsibility regardless of the results. Your life will improve as soon as you put this belief into practice. As a result, you will not blame or criticize anyone. Also, you will not compare anyone to yourself or someone else. Anyway, you must decide to excel and look for suitable solutions to any challenge you encounter.

Two Ways Help Us With This:

  1. To commit yourself to the following: You develop an awareness of self-control, courage, and strength that empowers you to take on responsibility when you make promises to yourself, even small ones.
  2. To decide on a goal and put forth great effort to achieve it.

Responsible

Though Most People Make Excuses, Some Manage to Find Solutions

When reflecting, you'll discover that while most people struggle to find appropriate solutions and put them into practice, some can do so effectively. When things get tough, people tend to justify their lack of responsibility by making excuses, which causes delays or failure to reach the desired goals.

Your mind will filter out unimportant things when you know what matters in life. Responsible people are distinguished by having lifelong goals that they pursue to fulfill their role in reconstructing this earth. When someone is driven by higher goals for which they were created, nothing, not even ignorant words, can deter them from pursuing their goals in life.

However, people must remember that taking responsibility is necessary for maturity and success in life. Achieving the desired results calls for perseverance, hard effort, and determination. People will be better able to find solutions, put them into practice, and succeed when approaching obstacles and challenges with confrontation and responsibility.

Effective Techniques to Develop the Skill of Taking Responsibility in Your Life and Future

The solution is relatively straightforward: begin acting as though you are solely responsible for everything that does or does not happen to you from this point on.

Accepting this as a fundamental belief that guides your actions in the face of unforeseen events grants you complete freedom over how you react to negative, influential situations. Oddly, our reactions to events cause us pain rather than the actual events themselves.

Accepting responsibility is a crucial life skill for both personal and professional success. Several techniques can be employed to develop this skill, such as:

1. Intellectual Perspective

It is your perspective of the world based on perception, comprehension, and interpretation rather than sensory vision. This includes the concepts, values, principles, and beliefs you hold that shape your outlook, way of thinking, and behavior.

People respond to life's events by applying what is known as an Intellectual Perspective, which differs from one person to another. People with a Positive Intellectual Perspective can handle challenges and responsibilities constructively and positively.

In contrast, those with a Negative Intellectual Perspective may struggle to cope with life's obligations and obstacles.

Therefore, the Intellectual Perspective is a crucial component of accepting responsibility because it fosters positive and creative thinking, effective and constructive handling of obligations and challenges, goal-setting and working toward achieving them, and creative problem-solving.

Changing your Intellectual Perspective is the first step to making radical, positive changes in your life.

Responsibility

2. Always Take the Initiative

The definition of initiative is "a step forward." Humans understand that we are responsible for our lives and that our decisions, not the circumstances around us, determine our behaviors. Therefore, we can prioritize our values over our feelings because we have a sense of initiative and responsibility that enables us to achieve our desired goals.

Initiators know what it means to take responsibility and don't blame external factors for their behaviors.

Since initiative is ingrained in human nature, if our lives result from outside events and factors, it is because we have chosen to give power to those things that govern us. This choice turns us into emotional people affected by the surrounding social environment.

In other words, they are content when treated well, while they take offense at mistreatment and quickly defend themselves. Conversely, the initiators are influenced by material, social, and psychological external stimuli; however, they make conscious or subconscious decisions or respond to these stimuli in accordance with values that produce productive work.

When reflecting, you'll discover that initiative is a constructive power that can be used in difficult circumstances. It can serve as a source of inspiration and motivation to take bold action and overcome obstacles. Here is the heartwarming story of psychiatrist Dr. Viktor Frankl to help you gain a deeper understanding.

He was imprisoned in the camps during World War II and endured terrible, agonizing experiences. His entire family perished except for his sister. Also, Frankl suffered torture, and his dignity was violated many times.

While sitting in his prison one day, he realized what he eventually referred to as “the last freedom of mankind,” which is a freedom that no human being can take away from them. He knew deep down how this would all affect him, even though the prison guards had total control over his surroundings and body.

He has complete freedom to choose how to respond to these tragedies that happen to him. He imagined himself coming out of prison soon, explaining to his university students what he had discovered while incarcerated in a lecture. He established his freedom during these self-control exercises, which no one could take away from him. As Gandhi said in this context: “They cannot take away our self-respect if we do not give it to them.”

3. Realistic Expectations

To avoid disappointing people or things, minimize your expectations from life instead of raising them to the highest level. Take your time with a specific reaction or decision from someone. You can feel much more at ease, avoid stress and frustration, build rapport, take responsibility, and avoid blaming others for anything you dislike when you stop expecting something specific from them in the future that you do not like.

4. Clear Vision and Goals

Knowing what is important in life and determining priorities will help you pay attention to what matters and ignore the rest. Most things in life can distract us from achieving our goals. However, it is normal for us to stop thinking about or being preoccupied with situations and other people when we set huge goals, concentrate our efforts on them, say "no" to everything that stands in our way of reaching those goals, and give up everything worthless in our lives. By doing this, we also stop living the victim role or placing blame for the things that happen around us.

In Conclusion

You become a role model and more when you have a responsible attitude. The most powerful leaders in history are those who take responsibility for the things around them. They are the most successful people in their lives and future, and they are the strongest and most worthy of influencing others. (You are self-made)
