Note: This article is based on the blogger Vishnu, who offers 10 tips for starting life again after failure and achieving goals.
Of course, I didn't end up on the street, but I didn't have a permanent place to stay. In the previous couple of years, I was going through a slow and steady descent to rock bottom, and I didn't quite know what to do.
I was in my mid-30s, but I felt ancient and had nothing to look forward to. It seemed that there was no hope for the future for me and I no longer felt any sense of life. I lost purpose and felt lost and ashamed of my failed marriage.
Existential questions haunted me; Who am I? Why am I here? What's the point of all this? I pondered these questions for many months and years after my divorce, and what I learned nearly five years after my divorce was that this experience wasn't the end, but the beginning. I bid farewell to a life that wasn't mine and started a whole honest new life for me. I chose a job that met my passions and desires and gave up professions that didn't.
Now I feel passionate about my daily work, I have relationships with interesting people, my priorities are clearer, and I know now what really matters.
And you too. If you feel like you hit rock bottom, you can start over too, and you can heal no matter what you went through whether you messed up your love life, work or any other aspect of life.
Effective tips towards achieving the life you dream of
Here are ten tips to make this happen:
1. Reach out to others with love and learn to forgive:
Talk about what happened with the people you love or with trained counselors. Share your feelings with others. It helps to ease the distress caused by those feelings. Reach out to your loved ones who can support and help you. Learn to forgive. Forgive yourself and others so that your forgiveness becomes a habit. And forgive yourself for any mistakes you may have made in the past.

2. Recount past events to yourself in a positive way:
To get over the past, you have to live in your thoughts and feelings in the present moment. You should practice mindfulness or a meditation exercise. This helps you focus on the present rather than the past. Catch yourself when you drift, and shift your focus back to the present moment.
When we're left with memories, we feel that the past is better than it was in reality, or that it's worse. Either way, thinking about the past is a huge waste of time as it no longer exists, and thinking about it only prevents you from living your day as you should.
When you think about the past, try to imagine a different story about it that doesn't include tragedies and letdowns, only experiences you learned from and developed your personality. Instead of focusing on pain, focus on the benefit you got as a result of these events.
3. Have a clear vision of your goal and purpose in life:
While rebuilding your new life, you need to have a clear vision of why you're here. You should have a good reason for it, and the good news is that your past circumstances most likely have the answer. That is, the reason for your existence lies in the pain and the moments when you felt that everything was over. Your painful past holds within it the core of your purpose, and you just have to discover the nature of that purpose.
After you find your purpose and get to know it, you can live it up in real life. If your goal is to provide support, you can do that more consciously, and if it is to pass a certain message, you'll be able to do that more consciously as well. So, find the purpose of your existence in your pains and disappointments. The universe is trying to pass a message to you through what happened to you.
4. Recognize your talents and skills:
If you're seeking to build a new life, you'll need to remember the moments when you were praised and encouraged, and you need recognition for your talents and skills. Although you may feel that your talent is ordinary and familiar, you may not know that you see it as such because you don't appreciate it as it should be.
It might be the ability to make others happy, poetry, or teach and inspire others. Recognizing your talents and skills helps you start over and set more goals in life. Talent is essential to realize your goal in life, and the more you refine and use it, the faster you'll succeed.
5. Have a vision of the authentic life you wish for:
The only good thing about rebuilding your life is that you can create it the way you want - get rid of bad circumstances and stress and simply start over.
At this point in your life, imagine the life you hope for, what it'd be like and how you'll feel when you get that life. It'd be better if you draw what you imagine or express it in writing.
Think about it, imagine it, and try to recognize how you feel about this life. Once you imagine the life you aspire to have, you'll know your destination and feel inspired by the thoughts you have.

6. Take on new habits:
In fact, the secret to success lies in habits, but we forget this fact because sticking to habits is a drag. Nonetheless, it's essential if you want to succeed, and every great achievement is the result of committing to certain habits that lead to slow but steady progress.
Great athletes are not born overnight. They've spent their entire lives building and sticking to habits. Whatever you want to do, break it down into simpler tasks and commit to getting them done regularly.
Do a task you know you can complete every day, and keep doing it until it becomes a habit that you can't do without. The better habits you build and stick to, the closer you'll be to your dream life.
7. Win the day and your inner happiness as well:
Success and happiness start from the inside and not the other way around. However, we spend most of our lives in pursuit of external happiness and success, and because you start anew in your life, you must focus on internal happiness and success. So take time to develop yourself, and find a sense of contentment and love deep within you. Freedom and contentment are satisfied from the inside, and then this satisfaction is reflected on the outside.
Try to find ways to stay balanced and focused on your goals, such as yoga, exercise, journaling, or receiving coaching, and other ways to help you feel like you understand yourself. Then set off and build a better life where it matters and give up the things that waste your time.
8. Replace your beliefs:
You also need to get rid of your old beliefs that are no longer good for you because keeping the old burdensome beliefs will have you spinning your wheels with no real progress. Old beliefs are like a solid wall keeping you from the new life you want for yourself.
To rebuild your beliefs you need to know what your beliefs are in each aspect of life. This is done by observing your opinions, feelings, and attitudes related to every aspect of life. You can't change your beliefs unless you realize how they automatically re-impose themselves.
After you get to know one of your old beliefs, examine it carefully and decide whether it's legit or not. It's good to write a diary, as it's a great way to change beliefs. Affirmative statements are also effective to build new beliefs in your life.
9. Be true to yourself:
It's about time you stop trying to please others and live for them. If you want to have the life you want, you shouldn't care what others think, want, and what makes them satisfied.
If you don't want to regret it later for living by the whims of others, you have to stay true to yourself and to do that, you need to experience until you realize what makes you happy.
This is the definition of values. It's an essential step to living a real and authentic life. In addition, another way to help you stay true to yourself is to listen to your intuition. So listen to yourself and let your intuition guide you. You have all the answers despite all your fears and doubts.
10. Move on to your new life:
In one of the previous tips, we talked about talents and recognizing them. This tip is about talents as well, but it requires doing your best to develop and refine your talents, and to use them along with your skills in a practical way.
Pursue your dreams and work on your passion on a daily basis so that every day you get closer to your dream life because you continue to take action to realize it.
Set goals if it helps you get the life you wish for, or simply work on one or two things a day that bring you joy and a sense of purpose in life. Even though you started your journey to the new life you want by imagining it, you can live it starting now on a daily basis. By living the life you want, you will get it, and the more you strive to make the dream a reality, it will actually turn into actual real life.
