Would you like to return the favor by making a positive difference in the lives of your friends, family, or co-workers?

20 ways to inspire people around you

Consider these 20 ways to inspire people around you if you want to be a positive influence who can motivate your loved ones to improve themselves:

1. Care

Can you inspire someone if you can't show your genuine care for them? The answer is unquestionably no. So, let your words and actions show how much you care about others, as some kind gestures contribute significantly to showing your care.

2. Be Enthusiastic

The saying “enthusiasm is contagious” is common enough to be cliché, but it’s a cliché because it’s true. Therefore, radiate your enthusiasm to everyone you meet, and know that your genuine smile, upbeat attitude, and genuine care in them will be returned tenfold.

3. Earn Trust

Keep a secret that someone confides in you to yourself. Establishing trust is a gradual process, but it can be destroyed instantly. Therefore, avoid gossiping at work or bringing up unjustified issues on social media to be a positive influence that people are unafraid to talk to.

4. Be Positive

Although criticizing others is the easiest thing to do, it is inappropriate.

Consider this: how would you respond if someone made fun of your appearance, intelligence, or performance? Nobody likes to be criticized, so you will definitely be offended whether the criticism is justified or not. If you do not have a positive opinion, do not say it.

5. Boost Others' Morale

Small compliments can always make a beautiful impact, no matter how miserable our days may be.

To ensure this, find a frowning person in the office, tell them how handsome they look today, and observe how a big smile appears on their face.

6. Stand Your Ground

Life's stresses can easily undermine our inner fortitude as humans, but if you want to inspire others, stick to your values no matter what. Maintain your steadiness to prove to others that overcoming the worst conditions is possible. This can be achieved by adopting an optimistic mindset, working toward your goals consistently, and never giving up.

7. Acknowledge Your Flaws

While it's crucial to keep going when life throws us a curveball, we must also acknowledge that humans are naturally fallible.

Everybody has one or more obvious flaws. Therefore, embrace them to show others that you are human so they can deeply relate to you. After all, it is impossible to find a flawless person —if they did, they would lie.

8. Be a Good Listener

Anyone can hear what others say to them, but only a few people can listen to those words, absorb them, and fully understand the intended meaning.

When someone confides in you about a problem, look them in the eyes and ask questions about it to show that you are interested in hearing about their situation and discovering how the problem came about.

9. Be Ambitious

No one is inspired by a person who surrenders to reality. So, be ambitious, aim for high goals, and keep going if you want to inspire people and convince them that they can achieve anything they aspire to.

10. Offer Constructive Criticism

First and foremost, constructive criticism should only be given if requested. Remember Tip 4: if your criticism isn’t positive, don’t say it. You will upset someone if you point out their shortcomings without being asked to, but offer constructive criticism if you are asked to weigh in.

For example, if someone asked for your opinion on a subject, blog post, article, or resume they had written, you could respond as follows: "First of all, I appreciate you asking for my opinion; it indicates how much you trust me. I have reviewed what you’ve done, and let me say that I like how you have (add a nice compliment here), but I think it would be better if you (add constructive criticism and feedback for improvement here).

11. Treat Everyone Equally

No matter our gender, political affiliations, ethnicity, religion, or other characteristics, we are all equal human beings. Therefore, treat people with love and care regardless of these unrelated characteristics that have no bearing on humanity, do not elevate anyone's status, and treat them however they choose to instill confidence and serenity in them.

12. Walk Confidently

Walk with pride and kindness to demonstrate your self-confidence. Keep your head up and your eyes forward so you can say hello or ask how everyone is doing.

13. Stay Calm and Cool

People’s reactions to insults or criticisms clearly indicate their ability to influence others. How will you surpass the one who initiated the conflict if you answer an insult with a bigger one?

No matter how inappropriate or hurtful the insult, it's preferable to remain composed and cool. You won't get better from being angry, and you won't be a good role model for others around you, either. Therefore, ignore the insults and handle them as though they never happened. By doing so, you will inspire those who saw your steadfastness in responding to the insult to follow your example.

14. Share Your Influences

What books have made a huge impact on your personality? What sources of inspiration help guide the most important decisions in your life? How did you become the happy, healthy, positive person you are today? Share the influences that shaped your character so others can also benefit.

15. Acknowledge Others’ Contributions

No matter how wonderful your achievements are, you are just one individual in the end. So, there have undoubtedly been others who have contributed to some of your greatest successes in life.

If you are a writer and someone compliments you on a paragraph inspired by one of your friends, say something like: “I appreciate this, but you know what's funny? That wasn’t even my idea, and it was my talented and wonderful friend X who deserves all the credit.”

Publicly acknowledge your friend’s contribution if possible. Doing so will show your humility and kindness in recognizing others’ favors on you.

16. Keep Your Promises

It’s easy to neglect our responsibilities when a more exciting opportunity arises, but this is the most effective way to destroy the trust you’ve worked so hard to earn. So. it’s wise to ensure that you keep your promises regardless of anything else that may conflict with them.

17. Stay True to Yourself

Many of us have multiple personality facets that shift depending on the social context in which we find ourselves. Depending on the setting—at home, at work, or with friends—a different approach is needed in each case. However, showing a different personality to each group of people is very exhausting, and it is certainly not a good way to positively influence the people around you.

Would you trust someone whose personality wasn’t comfortable enough that they were trying to please all the groups they deal with? Probably not, so accept your true self without making excuses.

18. Seek Alternative Opinions and Ideas

Obviously, anyone who thinks they know the answer to every query is fooling themselves. Therefore, set aside some time to examine your beliefs periodically. If you consider yourself a financial conservative, consider hearing someone else's opinion that is not aligned with your own to gain a different perspective.

Talk to people with different opinions to learn what makes them special. It’s unlikely that you’ll change your mind, and if you have a firm belief, it should be reinforced in the face of those doubts.

19. Avoid Worsing Things

If you win a debate, don’t brag about it. Saying, "I told you so," as a way to celebrate your victory will come across as conceited and will discourage others from consulting you regarding important matters.

20. Give People Space

Instead of giving people instructions step-by-step, allow them enough leeway to figure it out for themselves. A manager who keeps an eye on everything is disliked by all. When someone approaches you for assistance, point them in the right direction while purposefully leaving some things up to their interpretation so they have time to come to their own conclusions. A person realizes they are stronger than they ever thought when they realize they can analyze things independently.
