It is said: “It is enough to choose, as your choice is not a matter of life or death.” Well, in fact it is. Every decision you make is a matter of life or death, and every decision leads to a result or another, even if these results seem insignificant.

Note: This article is based on the work of Tyler Tervooren, and tells us how to make the right decision in life.

When you decide to do something you love, you choose to live. When you decide to do something you don't like or prefer, you choose to die. It really is that simple.

Life is filled with daily decisions, and many of them are related to what we call responsibilities. Nothing is wrong with that, because these responsibilities make life more realistic and exciting.

It's easy to consider responsibilities as a burden - things we've accepted and used to do for so long that still bind us - but they can also rejuvenate and affirm the value of life.

Simple and big decisions

I have given myself the responsibility of posting a new article here twice a week. I have a whole list of things that I feel responsible for, which give me so much happiness. When I receive an email from a reader, I feel a deep sense of responsibility to reply to it in the best way. Doing so makes me really happy.

I decide to keep up with those responsibilities every day and my life is so much better because of it

I know this because sometimes I make mistakes, miss the opportunity to come closer to my dreams, or don't reply to my emails. Then I feel pain inside, as if I've missed a valuable thing, or as if I've decided not to live and do things that don't cheer me up.

On the other hand, life is also filled with unwanted responsibilities, things we accidentally agreed to that drain our energy, and do nothing but bring us one step closer to our end.

I committed to jobs that I didn't really want to do, agreed to help people with things that are of no use to me, committed myself to stupid little things like reading books I hated because I'd already bought them, and didn't want to "waste my money".

The great secret

Here's an important idea: Life may be filled with many unlimited opportunities available to you, but time may not always be in your favor to achieve everything you desire. Every time you decide to do something that drains your energy instead of giving you pleasure and excitement, you choose to die rather than live.

Make the Right Decision

This decision may seem simple and trivial, but as you continue to do things that drain your energy and waste your time over and over again, you will end up regretting all the wrong decisions. So what if you choose to live today, instead of choosing to die? What if you ignore those unnecessary responsibilities and find a new one that actually made you happy?

What would happen?

  • Are you going to die?
  • Are you going to jail?
  • Will your family disown you?

If you answered with 'No' to these three questions, it is probably in your best interest to go ahead and do so.

All or nothing

We certainly can't get away from everything we don't like in life, but that's okay. A little stress is what makes it worth living. You cannot enjoy the sweetness unless you experience the bitterness. The goal is to slowly tip the balance towards life rather than death.

I suppose if you were ill, you might give up to the idea that we all are dying slowly, but wouldn't you rather live a little on your way to death?

I already know my answer, and what remains is your answer and your decision to choose and decide what can give your life meaning and excitement instead of giving in to simple tasks that drain your energy.
