People in those circumstances don't want to lose control of their nerves and their reputation, and that of their company, suffer, or lose their job, or harm their relationships.

Therefore, you must take the necessary precautions always to remain calm, even if you don't have problems with anger management.

To this end, the following tips will help you control your feelings in order not to put your business, reputation, or self-worth at risk.

Important tips to keep your cool at work

1. Leave time between your commitments

Keeping your calm at work begins with your scheduling. High levels of stress will cause your problems, but there are simple measures that can protect you from losing control of your temper, and the free time between commitments is the most important of them.

Instead of making appointments and meetings come right one after the other, leave periods of a break between your commitments and this time will be useful when a meeting takes longer than its allotted time, or unforeseen circumstances cause changes in your schedule.

In addition, having this extra time will prevent you from feeling anxious between meetings while you know your schedule is flexible and allows you to move between them without rushing.

And if your day is going smoothly and you don't need to use your extra time, you can plan backup activities to fill it. For example, you can take advantage of a few spare minutes to review notes for the next meeting or respond to an email so that your time is not wasted no matter what.

2. Practice meditation and deep breathing

If you feel overwhelmed by negative emotions, the best thing to do is stop what you're doing and take a deep breath, as deep, slow breaths help you think clearly. This is because it stops the racing of thoughts in your mind, as the reason for making many mistakes is to make decisions in the midst of feelings.

You can learn several deep breathing exercises, but the most important thing in all of them is to slow your heartbeat and get rid of the negative thoughts that you have, then you can take deep breaths, following the instructions of an audio clip or a video clip, or by practicing an exercise.

Meditation also works with a similar mechanism, but breathing exercises are often part of a meditation routine, and one of its additional benefits is that it includes positive reassurances, chants, and other mental tricks to improve your mental health.

3. Take a break

When a quick session of deep breathing or meditation isn't enough to calm you down, you may find that a short break is just what you need. While a strong work ethic is admirable, there's no harm in taking short breaks during the day.

A 10 to 15-minute break and a nutritious meal will help ease your fatigue and give you the energy to stay productive your entire shift. In the end, you'll find that working hard for seven hours is better than working slowly and unenthusiastically for a longer time.

Slowing down and taking a step back will help you gather your thoughts, calm down, control your emotions, and boost your productivity. Moving away from a problem or situation is sometimes enough to develop an integrated and effective solution.

4. Take a vacation

Taking time off from work every now and then is as much advice as taking a break during the day. Days off exist for a good reason. This time away from work allows you to reset your state of mind, thus avoiding prolonged suppression of feelings, which can have serious repercussions.

Take some time to yourself during your days off. For example, go to a spa, sleep in a bit, or enjoy a picnic in nature in the fresh air and sunshine. It is also a good time to connect with your friends if you need to talk to someone or you simply like to enjoy the social atmosphere outside of work.

You can also invest your vacation time to be productive. For example, you can work on starting a company or do some homework, but make sure to spend time doing activities that give you positive feelings, such as contentment, enthusiasm, and peace, so if your days off are as stressful as others, you will return to work and feel worse than before you took the vacation.

5. Talk about your problems

Many people lose their temper at work. This is because they do not talk to anyone about their problems, and the consequences of suppressing feelings for a long time are not good. So, you must talk to others about your thoughts and concerns even before you start to notice feelings of anger and anxiety building up inside you.

But we advise you not to talk to co-workers about other people who are also harassing you and working with you. It is unprofessional and can only be inappropriate gossip. Likewise, telling your employer in private that your colleagues are falling short in any respect is manipulative and not at all the point of the advice to talk about problems.

Instead of talking to your employer and co-workers about minor mistakes other people make in your workplace, don't allow other people's mistakes to make you lose your nerve, and don't wait for the moment when those negative feelings get out of control. Instead, bring it up calmly with your co-worker, and discuss a solution that will help both of you.

Consider talking to a counselor or therapist after reading this advice. This is a good idea. Regular visits to a mental health professional are not a sign of weakness. On the contrary, their knowledge and experience can help you deal with many of your concerns related to work or even problems in your personal life that may affect your career.

You do not have to pretend that your negative feelings do not exist or that you are not allowed to feel them. Life is volatile, and sometimes the circumstances are good and other times they are bad, all that matters is learning how to get through the difficult times in life so that you appear as a better person afterward.
