Note: This article is based on the work of author Erin Falconer, in which she tells us about the steps she took to achieve greatness.
As a life coach, my clients often come to me and say, "I want to be great," and follow that up with the question, "How can I do that?"
It took me a while to realize that it wasn't our job to worry about how to achieve our goals, but to clarify them first, to be very precise about them, and to trust that the universe will reveal to us how to achieve them. This process requires us to relinquish control and allow the universe to guide us.
I always tell my clients that success is a challenge that requires dedication and perseverance to reach your goal. If this were not the case, everyone would lead successful lives, and one of the potential obstacles we face is engaging in activities that do not contribute to our greatness; we lack focus and intention, which can derail us from the right path that we should follow.
I read different books, enrolled in courses, and reviewed my own life experiences before I proved that we have an easier way to use our full potential to reach greatness and live a life of purpose.
Seven steps you can take to help you reach greatness
1. Discover your talent
Every one of us was born with the potential for greatness already sown within us. Over the course of our lives, that potential was meant to grow and be shared with the rest of humanity. To find our talents, we must first do the following:
- Find what makes you truly happy. What do you like to do with minimal effort? And what makes you always smile when you do this particular job or activity?
- Use your morals and values to help you discover what you consider important in your life.
- Be aware of what upsets you.
- Be clear about your goals and vision, and write down the following:
- Who do you want to be?
- What do you want to do?
- What do you want to own?
- Be confident that the universe will guide you.
- Understand that we are intimately connected to the universe and communicate with this world every day, intentionally and unintentionally.

2. Trust the unknown
Show gratitude as if you had already received what you were asking for. When you express your gratitude, the world will open up for you. This sincere gratitude gives you great strength.
3. Mindful thinking
It is to balance what you think and feel and to avoid sending mixed signals to those around you by being patient, seeking and accepting feedback, and making use of it.
4. Avoid limitations by being fearless
We are the only thing standing in our way. The limitations are not visible, and they were not born with us. But we simply develop them through experience. Fear is not visible either, but we feel it. It is a state of mind we surrender to, and experience has taught me that when you overcome fear, you are not afraid to do whatever it takes to be great.
“Not everyone can be famous, but everyone can be great, because greatness is determined by the service you provide.” - Martin Luther King, Jr.
Sharing your talent with others to help them improve themselves and be in need of support and help is a very important step in your quest to be great. So my advice is to focus on excellence, not perfection. Perfection does not exist, and experience will teach you that striving for perfection can lead to many disappointments and unhappiness.
The way I look at this is that if I have anything to offer, even if it's small, this is a talent, and if I find anyone who can benefit from my training, my ideas, and my experience, the compromise to build these relationships is well worth it.
5. Protect the Next Generation
This can be done by speaking to the new generation directly. For example, I wrote a book called When Queens Bridge The Gap, which talks directly about teenage girls and their excessive self-love, societal pressures, and the pursuit of greatness. I want them to grow up to be strong women who can help change our world. For that, follow these steps:
- Work closely with the younger generation through volunteer work or in a profession such as teaching.
- Share advice and knowledge.
6. Be a great role model
Share inspiration through posts and videos to show them they can achieve anything they set their minds to. Believe in their dreams and encourage them to work hard to make them a reality.
7. Never forget why you want to be great
I heard this phrase once, and it stuck with me. When you constantly think about why you're striving for your goals, you won't give up when life throws challenges your way. You will inevitably face challenges, but that reason will motivate you to work even harder because you know the world needs your talents and you should share your great qualities.
