Note: This article is based on the work of the writer "Marc Chernoff", in which he tells us about the most common ways to waste a beautiful day.

I used to struggle with all of the above, but after working diligently through these difficulties, I became adept at investing my limited time each day.

Today, for example, I bravely visited my doctor to catch up on a health issue I was having, edited a chapter for a new book I'm co-writing with my wife, Angel, coached three of our clients, and answered emails from dozens of interns. I also worked on planning businesses and strategizing for the next year, practicing meditation and sports, spending quality time with my family in the afternoon and early evening, and writing this article now.

It may sound difficult, but it comes gradually with mindfulness and focus. My mind is aligned with what matters, and my actions reflect it. However, I will be the first to admit that I still practice some harmful habits at times that hinder my inner faith and effectiveness, which are very common among my friends, family, peers, and clients alike. They are the simple things we all do that waste our precious time.

Most Common Ways to Waste a Nice Day

The word “waste” may sound like a bit of an exaggeration, but it really isn’t. Having spent the last decade coaching thousands of people and surviving my own struggles, there is no doubt that these are the most common ways we waste the good days of our lives:

1. Getting too attached to things

Nothing lasts forever; when you understand that, you can do almost anything you want because you are not trying to hold on to anything except the present moment.

2. Rejecting what you have reached

Trust the journey even when you don't understand its point. Sometimes what you didn't expect turns out to be what you need. Therefore, try not to waste your time and energy rejecting what you have reached; Instead, invest your time and energy in getting where you want to go, day after day, step by step.

3. Empty fun

Don't lose yourself in the hustle and bustle of life; don't let empty distractions hold you back; control your distractions before they take over you; and feel the real positive power that comes from your decision to rise above unimportant distractions.

4. Going after the wrong things

You may think that more apparent success will make you happy because you live in a world where you have been taught that once you have the right job, position, and friends, you will be happy, but the reality is quite the opposite. Once you are happy, you attract the people, the job, and the abundance you seek inside you.

5. Postponing our happiness

Happiness is a mindset, not a destination, and it is the enjoyment of all the simple things while pursuing the great things. Happiness does not begin when some outstanding issues are resolved; it happens now when you appreciate what you have. So no matter what may happen, always remember that you are blessed with this moment and the ability to live it as you wish.

6. burnout

The best time to take a break is when you don't feel like it, because it is the right time to make the biggest change.

7. Being busy (without being productive)

There is a big difference between being busy and being productive. Don't confuse moving with moving forward. For example, the rocking horse keeps moving, but it doesn't make any forward progress.

8. Avoiding growth and change

Growth is hard, and so is change, but in the end, nothing hurts more than dwelling on the past.

9. Fear of failure

If you are so afraid of failure, you will not be able to do what it takes to succeed. So remind yourself that failure is not the worst outcome; Success in life at the wrong things or even not trying is much worse.

10. Permanent hesitation

Decide, commit, and act; it's as simple as that.

11. Constant complaining

Stop focusing on how stressed you are and remember how lucky you are. Complaining won't change your reality, but your positive attitude will.

12. Blaming others

You will change because of what happens to you, but don't let it degrade you. The extent to which you are able to overcome adversity or achieve any of your goals depends on the extent to which you take responsibility for your life, and when you blame others for what you suffer, you give up this responsibility, which means that you enable others to control this part of your life.

13. Engaging in unnecessary discussions

Being positive is an option, so choose wisely and act smartly to avoid unnecessary discussions, gossip, and negativity around you, as it is not worth engaging in at all.

14. Underestimating ourselves

Reject nonsense and succumb to the same old self-imposed negativity. The way to overcome negative thinking and destructive self-talk is to develop stronger, more durable, and oppositely positive thought patterns. So listen to what your soul is saying, replace excess negativity with positive alternatives, ask yourself what you would like to be, what you would change if you got rid of the thought that worried you, what you could be excited about, and what you might be grateful for right now if you really wanted to.

15. Questioning the decisions we make

There is a good reason to think you can trust yourself to move forward, not because you always make the right decisions. Rather, because you have overcome the consequences of the wrong ones and have gradually moved forward, you can cry if you have to until you can get over it. Crying does not mean weakness; It is, from birth, a sign that you are alive and overflowing with potential, and now you are overflowing with potential again.

16. Our complete neglect of ourselves

Remember to take care of yourself; rest, exercise, eat healthy, read, be creative, laugh, and don't stress yourself; we need you in the long run.

In conclusion

I want to end this article by reminding you of something very important that I had in mind today: where you are and what you are doing at any given moment. This moment is the only one that is guaranteed to you, and in it lies your life.

You are not going towards a different destination, and this moment is not just a turning point in your path; rather, it is the final destination, and you have already arrived. You are not progressing to a more important moment in your life. The present moment is the most important. For example, imagine that you

  • You brush your teeth, do the dishes, wear your daily clothes, etc. These are often moments before what you want to do next, but they are also precious goals in themselves if you pay attention to them. They are quiet moments to rest, breathe, notice, practice patience, be grateful for the soundness of your teeth, the food on your table, the clothes you wear, and so much more.
  • It's the moments spent driving your own car to work at peak hours, rushing to a meeting, and the like that will transport you to another place, but no less than other moments in your life, they are full of sights, sounds, interactions with others, presence of mind and appreciation of life. Be patient, breathe, and deal calmly with the emotions you are experiencing, and prepare yourself to deal with the chaos that awaits you.

Our minds always want to move to another place. Another beautiful day ends with hundreds of moments that we did not notice because they were not important to us. With the passage of time, our entire lives become a large collection of neglected and insignificant moments on our way to more important things.

Then, we rush things that are important, and we move from one task to another, and so on, until our time runs out and we wonder how it passed so quickly. Things should not be like this anymore, neither for you nor for me. We are able to distinguish beautiful moments and spend this beautiful day together.
