Individualism is one of the greatest things of the 21st century. However, it also comes with lots of pressures. Whereas individualism tells us that we can become anything we want as long as we work hard enough. This puts us under a lot of pressure on both fronts, that is, by choosing the path of life that we want to take, and by making enough effort to reach it.
Before, you could choose the same profession as your parents, and marry someone who appeared to be an appropriate partner for you, then you settle in a suitable place and have kids. Because this was how everybody done. But now the question is different, when you get to a certain age, you begin to ask yourself a lot of questions, like:
- Instead of choosing and sticking to a specific specialisation, it has become normal to move from one job to another, as the general trend has become the experience of many specialisations and posts.
- Instead of relying on personal relationships about reason and logic, we follow our feelings and what our heart wants.
- Instead of living with the partner where we grew up and have a family, we travel more and move abroad and perhaps choose not to have a family.
People now have the opportunity to make a change whether they feel they are living a life that is not suitable for them or whether they want to change their lifestyle. taking the family, society, or traditions and standards as a part of determining our decisions.
Opportunities of Individualism:
The worldwide tendency towards individualism will not change and may intensify, so we will have many tools to help us better know ourselves and adapt our experiences.
Here are some things that will exacerbate this trend include:
- AL and algorithms are creating personalised online experiences.
- Technology, because these technologies will accomplish numerous tedious tasks, this will give us more time to enjoy what we want.
- On-demand learning, helps us to gain skills and information on all topics, making life-long learning more applicable.
All these services are available for everyone around the world via the internet. And although we have not reached a point where all people around the world have access to the internet , the UN has declared that by 2050, the Internet will be available worldwide for “90% of the world’s population”.
Challenges of Individualism:
The greatest challenge of individualism is the pressure that’s put on people to continuously developed themselves and find out what they are passionate about. While schools in most cultures currently do not provide sufficient skills to develop the concept of self- learning to help people realise their lifelong dreams and aspirations.
For this reason, elementary school children still have to learn the same program without the opportunity to adapt it to their interests and talents.
We hope to find a way in the future to make the learning process customised, it fits all students and covers all their needs in learning basic skills in reading, writing and maths, in addition to having the opportunity to personalise their studies later.
How to live individuality?
So how to prepare a future where individualism will increase?
You can either:
1. Engage in learning activities:
So much learning is available on YouTube, in books, or at events. All you need is to google your interests and you can start learning.
2. Create a vision:
Identify the accomplishments you wish to achieve in your life and learn the things that motivate you personally, this will help you make the right choices when faced with many opportunities as a result of this overall tendency toward individuality.
3. Explore and be inspired:
Seek out experiences and people who can broaden your horizon and show you what’s possible and what might interest you.
Conclusion:
Whereas individualism is a blessing, it has requirements and it is normal to feel weighed down by all these choices, wishing to live everything and nothing at the same time.
