Many people think that one's educational background solely determines intelligence, so anyone without a college or graduate degree is seen as lacking intelligence and is not given recognition.

Likewise, a craftsman is defined as someone with average or low intelligence, disregarding their original ideas, inventive concepts, and developmental insights.

Even though no one knows a doctor's accomplishments, surgical skills, or diagnostic accuracy, they are still viewed as the world's savior because of their stellar academic records. Our criterion for determining someone's IQ is unjust, insufficient, based on formalities, and ignores real facts.

We urgently need to expand the concept of intelligence. We cannot limit intelligence to obtaining high school and university grades. It is a lifestyle that depends on your capacity to adjust to your environment, analyze things properly, solve issues, and make appropriate decisions. It also depends on how much you focus on your strengths and how much you study across a variety of subjects while delving deeper into one field for specialization.

This is the age of value, quite literally. Being wealthy doesn't require having a lot of assets; all it takes is coming up with a unique, effective idea and putting some effort into it. Ideas are what define our era. Therefore, do not inquire about academic certificates; inquire about skills and ideas, as they make nations great.

Nothing is more important than science and research in all areas of life. Instead of glorifying the traditional education system, it is time to look for more creative ways to awaken the hidden energies in our children instead of suppressing them. Here comes the role of independent self-education with all its benefits and innovation.

The view on intelligence in our current era has been distorted. Instead of associating it with values, morals, and helping people, it has become associated with the twisted methods that occur in society. Whoever breaks the law using unconventional methods is described as intelligent.

On the other hand, the different types of intelligence are not taken into account. A social person who is capable of building strong and very effective human relationships is not considered emotionally intelligent. In contrast, a person who can solve many mathematical equations in a short period is considered intelligent.

What is intelligence? What are its types? Can we increase our IQ? This is what we will discuss in this article.

Intelligence

It is the ability to adapt to society and seek appropriate solutions to problems that might stand in our way of achievement and success in life; that is, the ability to make the appropriate decision regarding all the details of life, like when to get out of bed, whether to start your own business, or whether to make decisions about your marriage and divorce, or about raising a child and helping them develop their skills, or about the quality and quantity of healthy food.

Intelligence

Components of Intelligence

1. Information

An intelligent person searches for sufficient information regarding the issue they are trying to solve. They will only be able to reach the appropriate decision if they have enough information. The basic difference between an intelligent individual in one field and another person is knowledge. The other person lacks the information that an intelligent person does, which allows them to conduct research, analyze data, and make decisions.

2. Understanding and processing information

Here, learning skills, the ability to analyze and deduce, and the ability to recognize patterns appear to create a clear picture of the issue, for example, identifying the pattern in a mathematical problem and guessing the correct answer based on the analysis of the problem, observing the pattern followed by a group of people and predicting their behaviors, identifying the pattern in a rival's marketing campaign and predicting their next moves in the market, or predicting a friend's next move in chess based on their playing style.

The positive advantage is that you can develop your skills in analysis and deduction through exposure to different types of issues and situations so that the mind becomes accustomed to them and its horizons expand. Here comes the importance of people's unique experiences throughout their lives. Studies have proven that they are the best way for a person to learn and increase their intelligence. The human ability to understand, analyze, and conclude is related to the following:

  • Mental speed: It is the rate at which the mind finishes a task that has been assigned to it. It is essential for determining the level of intelligence. All intelligence tests set a specific time for each question to determine the person’s mental speed in solving the questions.
  • Memory: It refers to a person's ability to thoroughly examine an issue by paying attention to all of its details. There are two types of memory: Verbal and visual. Visual memory depends on pictures and drawings and is more permanent than verbal memory, which relies on words only. Therefore, you need to improve your verbal memory. You can do this by reading aloud and memorizing the words or by playing music, listening to the notes as they are played, and memorizing them.
  • Abstract thinking and causality: It means a person's ability to search for the reasons behind something and the extent of their creativity in analyzing existing facts to reach deeper and more useful data. They do not depend on what they see only; rather, they allow all their senses and feelings to work and analyze.
  • The ability to solve problems: It means a person's ability to offer unconventional solutions to existing problems. It also measures their ability to solve more than one problem at the same time.
  • Creativity: It is thinking outside the box and the ability to come up with something new or present something that exists but in a new way. There are many techniques that stimulate creativity, such as brainstorming techniques, negative brainstorming, random words, and so on.

Components of Intelligence

Intelligence Quotient

The percentage results from dividing an individual's mental age by their actual age. So, intelligence is related to a person’s age. It is assumed that as a person grows up, their mental age increases; thus, their intelligence increases. However, if a person grows up while their mental age remains the same, their IQ will decrease. The normal IQ ranges between 85-115%.

Types of Intelligence

1. Logical intelligence

This kind of intelligence allows one to analyze the causes and contributing factors to any problem and then provide appropriate solutions. For example, this person can solve complex mathematical equations.

2. Emotional intelligence

It is the ability to control feelings and emotions and direct them to what is in the interest of the individual and the other party. Emotional intelligence is also concerned with studying the feelings of others and paying attention to them.

3. Bodily-kinesthetic intelligence

It is the ability to coordinate between the mind and body movements in a professional way. Like athletes, those with this kind of intelligence are known for their emotional stability and quick response.

4. Social intelligence

It is the ability to build strong social relationships, achieving a win-win situation for both parties, through empathizing with others and understanding their needs and motives.

5. Linguistic intelligence

It is the ability to use vocabulary and express thoughts in a wonderful way that affects others.

6. Spatial intelligence

It is the ability to visualize a place and things in three dimensions, while memorizing them completely, just like the ability of a taxi driver to memorize and remember places easily.

7. Physiognomic intelligence

It is the ability to read people and their insides; thus, anticipating their reactions and behaviors.

Types of Intelligence

How to Become More Intelligent?

Although a person's IQ is subject to genetics to a very large extent, every person can develop their intelligence through:

1. Reading

Reading is one of the most important things that helps develop your intelligence. Reading helps you learn about different problems in life and successful methods for solving them. You also learn to use your imagination for analysis and deduction. Because of the effort put forth during the reading process, your mind becomes stronger and more productive.

2. Learning a new language

Learning new languages stimulates new areas of the brain, so that the areas responsible for learning and problem solving are more activated; thus, your IQ increases.

3. Friendship

Befriend successful and intelligent people, and you will certainly be influenced by them and their effective lifestyle. You cannot benefit from those who spend all of their time on social media, while you will benefit from those who read, research, and analyze and those who have a message that they seek to achieve in life.

4. Trying something new

You will experience feelings of joy and enthusiasm as you experience something new in life, which will reflect positively on your mind's performance. For example, you can try climbing a mountain, going on a long hike with a group of people you don't know, playing a musical instrument, taking a horse riding course, etc.

5. Self-learning

One of the most important methods for developing intelligence is self-learning. This method allows the mind to work completely freely without any restrictions or obstacles, unlike the traditional education system, which suppresses freedom, limits creativity, and squelches innovative ideas.

Self-learning gives you the ability to analyze and conclude to reach what you want. It also makes you feel good because, rather than pursuing an academic degree with all of the suffering, orders, instructions, and severe discipline that accompanies it, your goal is to grow professionally and make your mark.

You also acquire many skills during your independent learning journey; the most important of which are patience and commitment. You are committed to yourself and your values only and nothing else.

How to Become More Intelligent?

6. Exercise

Exercise is very important for maintaining a high level of intelligence. It causes the heart to pump more blood throughout the body, supplying the brain with the oxygen necessary for mental functions.

7. Using creativity techniques

One method for fostering creativity is brainstorming. Brainstorming generates ideas, like when you meet with your work team, for example, and everyone presents their ideas to analyze and address the current issue.

If you're thinking about launching a business that offers services like creating purposeful, influential, high-quality videos and writing rich content, you can meet with your team to discuss ideas for the company's mission, target market, marketing strategy, standards, work environment, features, etc. Therefore, a creative person can manage these ideas and connect them together with the aim of extracting the most effective idea.

The second technique to stimulate creativity is negative brainstorming. Here, you might ask your team to brainstorm the worst case scenarios for the project and then try to find a useful way to connect these ideas to the project effectively in order to produce positive results. For example, your team might recommend that you provide humorous and amusing content, which goes against the company's policy of providing meaningful and valuable content. However, you can invest the idea by adding some fun to the content, so that it attracts people in a greater way.

You can also use the random word technique, where you say any word that comes to your mind when you think about your project and then try to connect it to that project. For example, the word “sport” might come to your mind, so you connect that idea with your project by presenting videos in a positive way that inspires life and freedom.

8. Avoiding negative judgment

Do not be harsh with yourself. Do not judge yourself unfairly, call yourself names like stupid or misbehaving, or hold yourself responsible for your unpleasant experiences in the past. Instead, take advantage of the past and create new beliefs based on your individual experiences. A person's greatest teacher and inspiration for growing in intelligence and creativity are the circumstances and events they encounter. Suffering and pain give birth to creativity and innovation.

9. Focusing on ideas

There are three types of people: Some of them are materialistic in nature, concentrating only on purchasing the most luxurious homes and cars and ignoring other aspects of life because they think that material possessions are the only path to true happiness. The second kind finds fulfillment in constantly talking about and criticizing other people, meaning that their lives are centered around people. The third type of people focuses on improving themselves, thinking about the society they live in, and analyzing its issues in an effort to find appropriate solutions. These people believe that our worth is equal to life. Your life becomes more marvelous and of higher quality the more value and benefit you provide.

Try to emulate the third kind of person. This does not mean eliminating the material and social aspects of life; it means achieving a balance between the material and social aspects of life while prioritizing self-value activities over lifestyle.
