I had a minor argument with a few of my friends a while back, and it wasn't a big deal for me because I didn't think it was important, but it had a big impact on one of them.

Note: This article is based on the blogger Alden Tan, and it presents 7 straightforward questions you should start asking yourself.

As I previously stated, I didn't initially think the matter was important, so hearing that my actions were extremely hurtful and that I should control my temper made me reflect deeply.

Do You Make Excuses to Avoid Honesty?

As I gave it some serious thought, I concluded that we frequently make a lot of excuses, which causes us to stop treating ourselves with honesty. Regardless of whether we are right or not, we attempt to use our emotions to justify some of our feelings, such as generalized pain, sadness, or rage.

Also, we tend to leave things as they are because it can sometimes be much easier to feel pain than to try to make improvements.

Questions You Must Ask Yourself to Treat Yourself Honestly

1. "Is There a Chance I Could Be Mistaken?"

Sometimes, you might be mistaken, so you should be humble, own up to your error, and apologize. It will be annoying and angering, but you must own up to your mistakes and make amends for them.

It's time to grow up and stop using your emotions as an excuse for your bad behavior and stubbornness, and this is so immature. Additionally, people will value your honesty, and things usually aren't as horrible as you imagine.

2. "Do I Really Love My Family?"

I believe that most individuals in happy families claim to love their parents and siblings, but do they truly behave in that manner?

For example, do you claim to love your mother but treat her rudely because you find her expression of affection bothersome? This is an important question because the answer should motivate you to strengthen your bond with your family.

As for the question: "Do I love my family?" You have to obey your parents regardless of how you feel about them, and no matter how much you disagree, you have to find a way to make the family dynamic harmonious again.

Questions You Must Ask Yourself to Treat Yourself Honestly

3. "Am I in My Desired Position Right Now?"

Even though many of us are not where we want to be, we claim to be because we believe we are doing well in light of societal norms and others' perceptions of us. For example, although many people detest their jobs, they choose to stay because they are comfortable with their steady income.

Initially, you will experience fear if you attempt to answer this question honestly, but you can then make plans to begin moving in the direction of where you really want to be, no matter what.

4. "Am I Concerned About Others' Opinions?"

Many people struggle with this issue; some may even believe they have solved it, but is that really the case? What happens when you compete in front of thousands of spectators?

It's challenging to care less about what other people think, but if you want to master that, be honest in your response, accept your shame, and focus on improving yourself.

5. "Am I Always Honest with Others?"

Do you always speak your mind to others? Or do you back down at the last moment to avoid conflict or spare their feelings?

I think we all sometimes hold back out of courtesy. No one wants to hear embarrassing remarks in public, even if they are true. However, answer this question honestly, as it will benefit you and everyone around you.

6. "Do I Want to Be Right or Happy?"

The truth is that being right all the time does not necessarily translate into happiness. Many of us have an obsession with being right. However, if you're always unhappy, it might be time to give up on being right and focus on happiness.

This entails humility, stepping back, and accepting that others may think you're wrong. It doesn't matter anyway.

7. "Do I Truly Love My Partner?"

Would you prefer to live a lifetime with them? Consider whether you could manage without them. Is your fear of stepping outside your comfort zone keeping you from them?

Most couples today are unhappy because they fear being alone or experiencing the pain of separation, feel powerless, and dare not be honest with themselves. However, since this concerns your future, you should answer honestly; everybody is worthy of true love.
