Therefore, in many cases, the call for the necessity of sexual education is understood as an invitation to sexual intercourse.

This is what makes many people get married without any accurate information about the sexual life that awaits them. Insted, all they know are mere words, phrases, and stories that they collected from here and there and built on their basis their view of sex and the sexual relationship and its nature.

However, what if things are not going well and your partner has a sexual disorder? It is known that people’s personalities, inclinations, and desires are different. Each person has certain features and characteristics that distinguish them from others and interfere in the core of their social, psychological, and personal formation. Whenever one of these features overwhelms the personality in an exaggerated way, there will be a psychological disorder.

These disorders do not stop at one aspect of personality. Rather, they affect all of them, and the sexual aspect is only one of these aspects, so it can be said that it is the most fertile environment for the growth of disorders.

For example, some aggressive impulses may grow exaggerated to control the person completely, and these motives are directed against others or against oneself and this is what is called personality sadism.

On the other hand, someone may take pleasure in exposure to violence, so we are in front of the masochistic personality. These two disorders are the subject of our article today.

Are they limited to a person’s sexual life? Or do they also appear during the practice of ordinary life? You can observe them before you become involved in a sexual partnership with the affected person. So, if you are interested in learning more about Sadism and Masochism, read on.

What is Sadism? And what are its causes?

Sadism can be defined as a psychosexual disorder in which the sufferer cannot reach sexual pleasure or pleasure without harming the partner and inflicting pain on them.

The roots of the term sadism go back to the French novelist Marquis de Sade. Through his novels, he portrayed sexual scenes imbued with cruelty and psychological, sexual, and physical violence. He believes that a person must go after satisfying their desires without any moral or legal controls or restrictions.

So, obtaining absolute pleasure was one of the basic principles in his life. In his opinion, this pleasure reaches its climax when it is associated with pain, as a person's need for pain is not less than their need for sex, if not superior to it.

These principles in the life of De Sade were not limited to his writings and novels. In his life, he linked his words to his actions, and his history was full of sexual scandals of this kind. De Sade did not feel pleasure without harming his partner, whether by flogging, restraining, beating, and other brutal acts.

Thus, based on that story, sadism can be defined as a psychosexual disorder in which the sufferer cannot reach sexual pleasure or pleasure without harming the partner and inflicting pain on them, whether it is psychological or physical pain or both.

It is important to know that the presence of some sadistic tendencies in a person does not necessarily mean that they have a sexual sadism disorder. Some of the sadism, that is, a mild tendency to violence is naturally present within healthy and normal sexual relationships. Also, many partners resort to mild violence or imagine it during the relationship, desiring to increase pleasure and excitement.

Today, the term sadism is no longer associated with sex. Rather, it goes beyond that to include other aspects of the patient's life. You find that one’s sadistic traits control their actions and behaviours, and these acts and behaviours can be considered the first warning sign for you. If you notice the following behaviours of your emotional partner, it is likely that they are sadistic, so think carefully before taking the step of marrying:

  1. Bossy.
  2. Catty and never forgive any mistake, no matter how simple, even if it is unintentional.
  3. They enjoy humiliating others. If you are eating outside, for example, you will find them deliberately insulting, humiliating, and disturbing the waiter.
  4. They do not feel remorse or guilt. Rather, you see them amused while causing harm and damage to others.
  5. Sceptical.
  6. They do not accept criticism.
  7. Fanatic of their opinion and ideas.
  8. Excessively violent with no mercy in their heart.

In case you are involved in marriage and you suspect that your partner is sadistic, here are these signs that confirm your suspicions and assure you that they suffer from sadistic sex disorder:

  1. They get very upset when you don't go along with their desires.
  2. They are exaggeratedly violent to the extent that they cannot control their desire to harm you even if you ask them to stop. They deliberately persist in harming you, and the more you fear and panic from them, the more they enjoy it.

It is very important to know that you are in this case, and as long as you do not agree to comply with them, what they commit against you under the marriage deed is considered a crime and the law is on your side.

Sadism, in case that it was without the consent and approval of the partner, is a crime punishable by law. Here, we must alert you that these relationships are very serious, and many sadists even kill; from 37 to 75% of people who committed sexually motivated murders were sadistic.

Causes of sadism

In fact, no clear, precise, and specific reason has yet been discussed for a person to become sadistic. In the following, we will present a group of reasons that play a role in infection:

  1. Having a mental disorder, such as schizophrenia or dissociative identity disorder.
  2. Bad personal experiences and exposure to harsh conditions, especially in the early stages of childhood, such as injustice and violence.
  3. Watching sadistic pornography is one of the factors that promote the growth and development of this disorder.
  4. First sexual experience.
  5. Freud says that sadism is the fear of the subconscious mind of castration, so the person resorts to violence as a defence mechanism against the possibility of castration, and this is what is called the "castration complex".
  6. The scientist "John Mooney" put five main causes of sadism, which are genetic predisposition, sexual exploitation in the patient's history, sick relationships, hormonal disorder, and other psychological disorders.

Some forms of sadistic sexual practices

Violence during sex gives the sadist great relief, and this is because they confess their sexual and aggressive desire at the same time. In the sadistic sexual act, sexual desire and aggressive desire are mixed, so that some sadists may reach orgasm without any sexual act and only through torturing the partner who in such cases can be called the victim. Sexual sadism appears through the following forms of practice:

1. Imagine a parallel sexual relationship filled with violence and torture

They have a normal sexual practice, but they discharge their charges of violence through imagination, and this form of practice is considered the least dangerous.

2. Some of them engage in sadistic practices that target psychological rather than physical harm

Such as writing abusive phrases on the partner's body or spitting on it, and it may come to urinating on the partner and insults, and these practices are called low sadism.

3. As the severity of the disorder increases slightly, other and more dangerous forms of sexual activity appear

The real physical harm begins, like painful biting, beating, burning, chaining, whipping, and other methods of torture.

4. With more elevation, it reaches the point of violence that leads to fractures and dislocations

In addition to severe psychological harm to the partner, belittling, insulting, and humiliating them.

5. Murder

It is the last stage the sadist reaches.

sadistic personality

What is masochism? What is its relationship to sadism? And what are its causes?

Masochism is violence directed against oneself. The masochistic person enjoys the beatings and torture they receive, and this torture is considered a key to sexual pleasure for them, and this name goes back to the Austrian writer "Leopold Masoch".

Then, the masochistic personality is the personality corresponding to the sadistic personality, and the sadistic person often interacts with a masochistic sexual partner, provided that the sadist does not feel that the masochist accepts the violence they receive.

Like sadistic behaviour, masochistic behaviour goes beyond the sexual state to appear in the person’s normal life and daily behaviour, which is what is called moral masochism. Here are some of the signs indicating that the partner is infected with masochism:

  1. They enjoy the role of the victim and believe that they are always oppressed.
  2. Most of the time, they find themselves in toxic and abusive relationships.
  3. They consciously or unconsciously expose themselves to humiliation and torture. You may find them always asking why they are always being harmed, why all their relationships are violent, and why they are being treated badly by everyone.
  4. A permanent complaint of injustice without any attempts to respond or prevent it.

Reasons for masochism

According to behavioural psychologists, masochism is due to a person’s bad experiences in childhood. The conditional link between sex and pain occurred as a result of these experiences. Freud believes that the masochistic person has destructive fantasies about themselves.

Some psychologists believe that masochism is a way in which the person punishes themselves for life, because they committed a mistake in their past or in their childhood, and they did not forgive themselves for it.

It is worth noting that sadistic behaviour and masochistic behaviour sometimes exist in the same person, and this may reach 30% of cases.

How is the sadistic sexual partner dealt with?

In fact, our exposure to such an experience is not an easy matter at all, and before we start talking about the methods of dealing with the sadistic partner, we have to remind you that you do not have to submit to violence or force yourselves to accept it to please the partner and that the option of separation is always available and should never be ignored, and it is probably the best option in many of these cases.

As for going to the sexual option, and in the case that the two partners are receptive to this type of sexual life, the following points must be taken into account:

  1. The situation is out of control to such an extent that these violent practices may lead to permanent disability or death.
  2. It is necessary to practise a normal sexual life, as it is likely, of course, that a loss of previous excitement will occur, but at the same time, ways can be found to achieve a good relationship without causing any material harm, as in the cases of sexual fantasies that we talked about above.
  3. A strong will is an effective element in confronting these desires, and it must be present in one of the partners in order to reach a relationship with the least degree of harm.

Treatment of sadism and masochism

There is no effective and definitive treatment for sadism and masochism, as confirmed by most psychologists, but some treatments can be used to achieve the greatest degree of self-control, and these treatments include:

1. Pharmacotherapy

It is very useful in the case of another psychological disorder associated with the condition.

2. Cognitive behavioural therapy

This treatment can be considered the most beneficial, and this is because it is based on the principle of reconfiguring the patient's sexual concepts again, trying to destroy the relationship that the patient formed between violence and pleasure, and building other conditional associations that have nothing to do with violence.

3. Clairvoyance

That is, fighting the problem by explaining it and explaining its psychological reasons to the patient, and why and how such desires were formed within them, which increases the patient’s ability to control themselves and control their desires.

In conclusion

In the end, we can only emphasise two very important points. Sexual education is one of the things that you, as an adult, must give great importance in your life. Many people may be driven by ignorance to continue such relationships and endure all kinds of harm under the name of marriage.

However, not only ignorance takes responsibility, but fear is also considered one of the most important factors that push the victim to remain silent and submit to the desire of the partner.

Therefore, you must provide yourself well in order to be able to end what you do not want. As for the second point, it is directed to every person who read this article and feels thatthey have  strong tendencies to torture their partner or themselves, so do not hesitate and consult a doctor directly.
