In the real world, people cannot perform at their best all the time. We are not machines that can work constantly and at the same rate. We are human beings and we have emotions, moods, and many other factors that affect our productivity.

Note: This article is based on the work of businessman Thanh Pham, who tells us how to activate your super-productive abilities.

The best way to perform at your best is to listen to your body and make your schedule based on the condition of your body; When you do this, it is when you show your energetic productive abilities and when you perform your tasks to the fullest.

How our bodies work

Before delving into how you can reach the stage of activating your super-productive abilities, first understand two concepts about the natural mechanism of your body. As you know, everyone has 24 hours in a day, but our bodies also go through a 24-hour cycle every day called the circadian, your “inner clock.” This is when the body sleeps, releases hormones, processes food, and so on. That is a thing your body does every day.

And if you've ever suffered from jet lag and woke up at times when you should be asleep at your new location, this is your circadian rhythm doing its own thing. While your body goes through a circadian rhythm once a day, it also goes through multiple cycles called "circadian rhythms." "ultradian rhythm," and every 90 to 120 minutes or so your body goes into this state. This causes you to have different periods of awakeness and sleepiness throughout the day.

Everyone starts to wake up, but after 90 minutes or so this starts to wear off and your body wants to take a break. When you get hungry and yawn, you are likely to linger, have difficulty concentrating, and want to stretch, and this is also the time when you are most likely to make mistakes.

The purpose of this mechanism

Why am I telling you all of this? The reason is that the lows and highs of energy that we feel every day are closely linked with the supra-daily systems. We are not machines that can run at full capacity 24/7, we can focus for a while but then we also need to take a break and eat before we can get back to doing our work.

The expert Rossi very nicely explains why it's so important to stick to your body's natural rhythm. The basic idea is that every hour and a half or so you need to take a break. And if you don't, you could be on your way to overexertion syndrome. You get tired, lose focus, tend to make mistakes, and quickly have accidents. If you keep ignoring your need to take a break, then you can experience more stress until you actually get sick.

Get things done when you're most active

The key to high-level performance and peak productivity is by timing your work to fit your day-to-day schedules. This is when you are so focused on the work in front of you that you forget the time.

You don't see everything that's going on around you, and that's when you get so much work done that you surprise yourself. We all have our super productive moments, and I'm sure they happen during times of the day when you're normally alert or focused.

The wonderful thing is that you can reach this state consistently by aligning your most important tasks with the times of the day when your body is ready to activate its super-productive capabilities.

It is important to know your periods when you are most alert and when you are tired. This is because it allows you to plan properly. When you align your most important tasks with the times of day when you're most alert, you'll get more done more efficiently.

We can work at different times, but this requires a lot of willpower and the release of stress hormones that should only be used at the right times. Such as emergencies or life-or-death situations, instead of going against the tide, go with the flow. In other words, organize your day based on when you are most active during the day.

For example, many people are more alert in the morning, so if you are one of those people, you should plan your day as the highest priority tasks are scheduled in the morning, and in the afternoon the body's daily and supra-daily cycle reaches its lowest point; This is when you are most likely to be exhausted and low on energy.

Now that you know the importance of your body's rhythms, it's time to start planning your perfect day. The first thing you need to do is determine your most productive hours of the day. In other words, what times of the day are you most creative and focused? If you track time, you can actually review and see your data, and if you want to organize your time, create an Excel file, and here we will talk about:

How to do the steps

  • Every hour, write in the box your physical energy level, concentration, and mood.
  • Use a grading system: 1 = low, 2 = medium, and 3 = high. The higher the number is, the better.
  • Follow this for at least 5 days, throughout the week.

Your physical energy is an indicator of how active are you. If you are active, score it at 3, but if you feel tired, score at 1. The same idea applies to focus and mood. After a week of following this method, review your scorecards and note the times when you are active because these are the times when you must perform your tasks to the best of your ability.

You don't need to make all the columns filled with the number 3 - although that would be ideal - and you also don't have to be overly strict with times, but acknowledge the specific times of the day. Some people are more productive in the morning and others in the afternoon.

Focusing in the times when you are working your hardest is crucial. Because there is a big difference between working at 7 am and 11 am, both of which are technically in the morning, but at very different times of the day. This Excel file will help you determine the times of the day that you should seize to do your hard work.

planning perfect day

Create your perfect schedule

Now that you have acknowledged when you'll reach the peak of your super-productive abilities, it's time to create your perfect schedule. When you start your day and prioritize the tasks you want to do that day, arrange your schedule so that the most important tasks are scheduled when you are most active and your least important tasks are at the times when you are least active and focused.

You will reap positive results from this method if you can plan your day the same way the night before.

When you reach the end of your body's daily cycle, that's when you need to take a break. Look for signs around the 90-minute mark when you start to feel like doing something or when you lose focus. You don't have to stick strictly to 90 or 120 minutes, but look for signs at that time when you are not so focused; That is when you know that you have reached your full potential, and once you have reached this point:

We strongly suggest that you do one of the following:

  1. Return everything to the previous state.
  2. Drink a glass or two of water.
  3. Eat a small meal containing about 300-400 calories, and avoid eating too many carbohydrates. It makes you feel lazy.
  4. Take a break from your workplace and go somewhere else until your brain changes the "frequency" to a different environment so that you stop thinking about work.

prioritize the tasks

Then go back to your workplace and activate your productivity superpowers. Many people's lives can change when aligning important tasks with times when they are most alert, active, or creative, and you probably already do this fairly naturally. But I am sure you can do it better and increase it somewhat; If you are an excitable person and have a period or two when you are most active, the first thing you want to look at is:

The following points:

  • Are you getting enough sleep?
  • Are you eating enough food and drinking enough water?
  • Do you exercise? Regular exercise will increase your effectiveness as well as the number of times per day that you work when you are most active.

My own experience

To get an idea of how to apply the previous concepts, I will give you an idea of how to use the concept of operating your super-productive capabilities. But in my case, I am more awake in the morning and late at night, and this is when I am most active and the times in between my energy is average.

Sure I can work but anything between 3 pm. and 6 pm. shouldn't be focus work. I usually get up at 7 am. then do my morning routine, and then start doing my most important task of the day - which I planned the night before - and after lunch towards the afternoon, I do another important task. So I have already completed three main tasks.

Then, I'm going to take a break. But I do know that in the afternoon I find it difficult to focus for long periods of time, and this is when I do daily tasks that are low on energy or of little value, and when it's time for dinner, I eat dessert and relax, then I usually do work that needs focus again. Around 11 pm., I go to bed and then the new circadian starts.

  • Schedule important tasks for the times when you're working your hardest.
