Many successful people attribute at least part of their achievements to waking up early. Early risers tend to get more done in the morning. They feel less stress compared to those who wake up late. However, waking up at 5 a.m. might seem challenging for those not used to it.

How to Kickstart Your Day at 5 A.M.?

Many people find it hard to rise early because they might be stuck in certain routines, whether it's staying up late for no good reason, hitting the snooze button multiple times, or getting out of bed at the very last minute. Without you knowing it, oversleeping robs you of valuable time during the day. Read on to learn how to break this cycle:

1. Change where you place your alarm

Having the alarm clock close to your bed is one of the largest obstacles to rising early. If it's within your arm's reach and you can simply turn it off without getting out of bed, then you're making things harder for yourself. This is because you might wake up, turn it off, then go back to sleep without even remembering it. It's better to place the alarm clock away from your bed to force yourself to get up to turn it off.

For example, you can put it in the bathroom, especially if you use your phone as an alarm. Since using the bathroom and showering are typically the first things you do upon waking up, having the alarm there helps you start your day off smoothly. Of course, not everyone will find it a good fit.

2. Do without the snooze button

The snooze feature in modern alarm clocks is useless, so there's no need to chop logic and say that it helps you wake up gradually. It's better to buy an alarm clock that doesn't have a snooze button, and if you can't find one, try not to read the instructions so you won't be aware of the snooze duration. This will certainly stop you from hitting it if you're unsure when it'll go off—a minute or even an hour later.

3. Set different alarm tones

If you set the same tone every day, you'll get used to it, and it won't be as effective anymore. Most modern alarm clocks allow you to set a different alarm tone for each day of the week, so you can use this feature occasionally to help you wake up more easily.

4. Make a puzzle

If you cannot turn off the alarm without using the snooze button, attach it to a puzzle. The longer you hear the alarm, the more awake you get—it doesn't take a genius to figure that out. Try to make switching off the alarm very challenging by hiding it under the sink or under the bed or by challenging yourself to solve a riddle before you can turn it off. You can also try to put it in a difficult-to-open box. This can be very annoying in the morning, but it works well.

5. Establish a routine

Waking up at 5 a.m. in the morning is much easier if you do it every day of the week as opposed to just on certain days. Therefore, set one alarm that repeats daily and goes to bed simultaneously every day since it's crucial for morning productivity. You must find out how much sleep you need to maintain your energy levels during the day. Some people may be fine with 4-6 hours; however, most of us need 7-8 hours of sleep.

6. Find a reason to wake up

Ensure you have a solid reason for getting out of bed every morning. It's very challenging to rise at 5 a.m. if you don't have a reason for it—plan your day, pay bills, work out, start work early, etc. It is best to choose something you enjoy doing early in the morning because it will make getting up much easier. It's like the weekend; you don't struggle to get out of bed early. Likewise, using the same reason, you can make it your goal each morning to feel that thrill by choosing an activity you enjoy.
