It is most likely that you felt a little nervous and embarrassed in those situations, but your self-confidence in these situations improved a lot with their recurrence in your life. This leads us to the following conclusion: "Competence brings confidence."

If you lack confidence in certain aspects of your life, it is most likely due to your lack of experience with them. That is why, in this article, we present to you six hobbies that allow you to gain experience in situations in which most people feel uncomfortable. By practicing one of these hobbies, you will be able to build real and lasting confidence in a practical way.

Six Hobbies that allow you to gain experience

1. Stand-up comedy lessons

If you are afraid of public speaking, performing stand-up comedy might be your best hobby. You will learn how to display your natural sense of humor in front of an audience, overcome stage fright, and organize a theatrical show. All these skills will make you more confident in other aspects of your life as well.

Many courses take you from a beginner to your first show in 5 days, so don't worry about getting nervous. The purpose of these lessons is to remove fear among beginners and provide them with a supportive environment. So if you want to become more confident on stage and be able to entertain the audience with your wit, then stand-up comedy might be the best hobby for you.

2. Discovering different cultures

Most people feel confident when they are with their friends. However, they feel uncomfortable when communicating with strangers.

Your confidence in the company of a certain group of people is the result of your frequent meetings with them. So be sure to expand your comfort zone when it comes to your relationships with people. If you are a bookworm, make friends with fitness nerds; if you like yoga, make friends with partygoers;  and if you are in business, make friends with artists.

Being able to treat, communicate with, and enjoy a group of different people gives you a huge amount of confidence, not to mention boosting your acceptance of other cultures.

3. Practicing martial arts

Many people are afraid of confrontation, and while avoiding fighting with others is a good thing, many people wish they could feel more confident about their ability to stand up for themselves or their friends in a dangerous situation.

If you are one of those, try some martial arts lessons. You don't have to become an expert in Kung Fu; just try some boxing lessons or whatever interests you for a period of time. Just knowing that you can defend yourself contributes to boosting your confidence On your own, plus it's a great exercise, too.

4. Improvisational theater lessons

The most insecure thought people have when it comes to public speaking is forgetting what they want to say. Improvisation classes will eliminate this fear forever, and you will be surprised that you can give a presentation easily after attending improvisation classes.

Improvisation is a form of theater. The scene is prepared in the present moment; roles are given to the actors, or they are asked to improvise in a particular situation and to act it out in a spontaneous manner without prior preparation.

If you are the type who tends to overthink what you want to say, joining the improvisational theater classes will enhance your wit and make you a good speaker, and like the stand-up comedy classes, it will increase your confidence on stage.

5. Travelling

Travel expands your comfort zone and is generally a fun activity. Travel teaches you to navigate unfamiliar environments, how to get to places you don't know, increase your knowledge, and expand your horizons of perception.

You have to travel at least once every now and then to an unfamiliar place. This does not mean that you have to travel to faraway places. Start with local areas and visit places near you that you haven't been to before.

6. Self-education

The reason for many people's fears is due to their level of education. You find them afraid of looking stupid or feeling embarrassed in the company of people who consider them smarter than them.

In a world that changes at a rapid pace, it can be easy to feel your cultural inferiority. This is why self-education should be a hobby. Read books, watch documentaries, and listen to audiobooks. In doing so, you learn new ideas, understand the world better, and trust your own opinion.
