Note: This article is based on the work of Marc Chernoff, in which he tells us about the most difficult truths, especially the illusions we tell ourselves that hinder our progress in life.
Because of our delusions, we often miss out on life's most serene and lovely moments, causing ourselves and our hearts great suffering. At first, it might be challenging to accept this fact.
Common delusions
Here are some common examples of these delusions:
- When we wake up in the morning and start thinking about all the things we have to get done, we don't really accomplish anything other than add stress to our morning, which will be much more wonderful without these thoughts.
- When we worry that we might fail, we put off doing things because we're afraid, which makes us miss excellent opportunities to succeed because of our fearful delusions.
- When someone annoys us, often because they haven't behaved as we expect they "should", the frustration comes from how their actions contrast with our expectations and mental images of who we think they should be, not from the behavior of the other person.
- When we consider making a healthy change in our lives (getting fit and developing a healthy physique), we first imagine what life will be like when we become healthy, have a fit and strong physique, and become motivated accordingly. However, this is not a reality because we give up when we realize that this requires significant effort and attention to a good diet in order to achieve what suits our delusions.
- When we're having a conversation with someone, we get distracted by delusions of that person's view of us or by imagining how to respond before they finish talking, so we miss out on an opportunity to connect deeply with them.
- When we go through the present with our minds wandering to other times and places, we miss out on the pleasant surprises and everyday pleasures that are all around us.
Though we often make an effort to avoid overthinking, stay in the moment, and enjoy it as much as possible, we must keep in mind that this is frequently insufficient, and we need to remember this fact.

Hard Truths to Keep in Mind
Nearly every day, course participants contact us with inquiries and worries that are primarily related to the disparity between their delusions and the realities they are faced with. The hard truths they struggle to accept always overlap because their individual situations are so varied and unique.
Here are ten of these truths:
- When you have anxiety, it is easy to believe that your fears are real rather than realize that they are just delusions.
- Failure is guaranteed if you avoid doing anything because you are constantly worried about failing. In fact, we all fail, but the more important truth is that failure does not define us at all.
- Since it is impossible to predict the future, the best way to live is to focus on the present and approach it positively by giving it careful attention and confidence.
- Because not everyone has the same heart, you will be very disappointed if you expect people to always treat you the way you treat them.
- True love and true kindness are about giving others more than they expect, without expectation or waiting for appreciation or gratitude for it, and showing others your undivided attention because you genuinely want to be there for them.
- When you expect too much, simple things become complicated, so don't let expectations defeat you because they are the true source of all heart troubles.
- It is far better to be worn out by much effort and learning than to be weary of doing absolutely nothing but living in delusion.
- Good things don't come to those who wait; they come to those who are patient, work hard, and persevere in order to accomplish their life's purpose.
- Be strong, present, and persistent because we need to learn and understand the value of effort, patience, and perseverance in a culture where people long for quick and easy outcomes.
- Wherever you find the stillness and serenity to truly appreciate the little things while pursuing the big things, that is where you will find happiness and peace.

Free Yourself from Delusions
Once you accept the truth, it's time to let go of your old delusions and return your attention to the present moment. See it for what it is, not as your mind tells you it should be, and accept it so you can get the most out of it, get through your day, and practice seeing life for what it is.
Get started, follow the steps one at a time, and give it your best effort rather than worrying about the worst-case scenario, being depressed about what might occur, or worrying excessively about how much work needs to be done.
Accept people for who they are without passing judgment on them, try not to let other people's actions dictate your thoughts and feelings, and simply be present. After that, decide if you want to spend more time with them or go peacefully on your way if not.
In Conclusion
Always keep in mind that there are a few moments of joy in life, like laughing heartily, having a nice conversation, going for a walk in the morning, getting a hug, or unwinding and resting at the end of the day, so be present wherever you are and value the little things.
