We all have dreams that the Lord has planted in our minds, and we are all capable of achieving them. Still, there are certain things that we must stop doing to get one step closer to becoming the people we are destined to be.

Those people who reach their highest potential and achieve great things are not better than us, but they only do things differently.

Some of us did not achieve our ambitions because of adherence to what hinders us. We grew up on the idea of not giving up and adhered to it literally.

We have always felt guilty when we leave things that do not benefit us or when we are related to relationships that are doomed to failure or jobs that exhaust our energy because we did not want to leave all that and give up, but the right action is to give up some of those things, as it is the best we may do for ourselves.

Things you should give up to become the person you want to be

1. Waiting

It has always taken us a long time to take a serious step. Our focus was on waiting for the right time, but why wait? Why don't we start doing it now?

You may be scared to take the step of starting writing, and it may take you years just because you are afraid. If you began work earlier, you would have made tremendous progress, so you should have the courage to eliminate the fear that hinders you and start immediately.

It is time, so do not wait for the idea to crystallize in your head or for inspiration to authorize you to begin, and do not wait to feel reassured and comfortable or to find out what may happen to you, not even to be fully confident of yourself or to get instructions to follow, but start now and without hesitation.

If you're waiting for a signal telling you it's time to chase your dreams, now is the time.

2. Doubting yourself

Self-doubt is often the result of a lack of confidence, and it starts from childhood because there are critical parents who seek idealism, low self-confidence, or negative thinking because when you are confident in yourself, you are less likely to doubt your decisions and do not need the approval of others.

It may be your dream to become a writer, but you have not developed this skill and did not have the courage or faith to start, and you may have ideas such as: Will I make a difference? Or will I add value to others' lives? Or can I make money from my writing?

You should respond to these negative thoughts with a positive one, such as “I can make a difference, add value to people's lives, and make money,” because you have to encourage yourself when you think about it again. If you do not have someone to support or encourage you, do those things yourself.

When the world doesn't encourage you, be the one to encourage yourself.

3. Making excuses

There are many reasons not to pursue your dreams sooner. These reasons may be young age, old age, or doing something that no one has ever tried, and perhaps the reason may be your lack of appropriate resources or that there is no one to support you or the circumstances are difficult or that it is too late, as well as the existence of several fears, such as fear of failure, embarrassment, success, change, or even the unknown.

But when things become clear, you'll stop making excuses and let go of your fears, and your faith will remain in control.

If you really want something, you'll find a way to get it; if you don't, you'll make excuses.

4. Complaining

When you complain about your debts, you express your inability to become financially free. When you complain about your body, you control the impossibility of obtaining a harmonious body, while complaining about your work means that you are desperate to improve it because when you complain about something, it stays the same.

Complaining is an unconscious way to express your inability to change your circumstances, and nothing hinders your progress more than complaining, so watch yourself, hear your complaint, and then ask yourself: Do you prefer to remain powerless or be a strong person with a solid will?

What complaining does is convince others that you're not in control of your life.

5. Comparing yourself to others

Everyone wants to do something unique in life, and you should be aware that comparing your life and dreams with the lives and dreams of others is wrong because your uniqueness is what sets you apart.

Social media may be one of the main reasons why we compare ourselves to others, as many review their lives and what they do, as well as their places of travel, successful marriage, and happiness, which plunges us into the cycle of depression.

The flower does not compete with the one next to it, but it only blooms.

6. Not taking risks

We often think that we are being prudent when we choose not to take risks, where many of us choose to stay in a horrible job just because it guarantees to pay the bills, or we decide to stay in a hurtful relationship because of fear of being alone, or we choose to study at university instead of starting a business we love because we've been told it's the only way to succeed.

While it's not always right to jump from one thing to the next, staying in your comfort zone is actually the most dangerous thing you can do.

You can't stay afraid to try new things, as it can lead you to what you aspire to, even if it's not what you want.
