No one can deny that a few of those who achieve success achieve it through luck, lottery, nepotism, or something else, but most of the successful people achieve it through diligence and overcoming failure. In the following lines, we will learn some skills to overcome failure.

Keys to Success

  • What makes a difference? Why are some people so successful?
  • Is it because of family? Being born into a cohesive family is something to be grateful for, but it is not an indicator of success. Many successful people have separated parents.
  • Is it because of wealth? No, as some successful people come from poor families. Therefore, wealth is not an indicator of success, nor is it a reason for failure.
  • Opportunities? Some people share the same opportunities. Yet, some of them take the initiative and bear the consequences, and others hesitate and fear failure and the unknown.

There are many other reasons that have nothing to do with failure but are excuses that are invented to justify failure.

The key to success is none of these things. The difference between ordinary people and successful people is their perception and reaction to failure.

The biggest problem with failure is that people are quick to judge certain situations in their lives and consider them failures, while they should look at them as blessings, which we may or may not know. When our perception of things changes, failure becomes an opportunity to learn, develop, and improve.

They develop a fear of making mistakes or losing time or money due to not being able to move because of destructive criticism in early childhood and mistakes they might make as adults. Even when given the opportunity, they remain motionless. They make up all kinds of excuses for not taking action out of a fear of failing, including a lack of time, an inability to make even the smallest investment, and lack of the necessary knowledge and skills.

You need the courage to risk the possibility of failure, and you need the courage to endure continuous obstacles, disappointments, and temporary defeats. You need to learn how to deal with failure as a prerequisite for success, which you can overcome. You also need the courage to deal with failure as an opportunity to start over with a smarter start, and you need to overcome the fear of failure by doing what you fear over and over again, then decide to recover and rise, not to break if things are not in your favor.

The bigger and more exciting your goals are, the more you will stumble and fall. No matter how many times you fail, you will rise again and get closer to your goal step by step after every setback.

Reasons for Continuous Failure

There are several beliefs about failure that make people continue to fail, the most important of which are:

1. People believe that failure is avoidable

Everyone fails and makes mistakes. If you do not make mistakes, you are not human. Mistakes are of human nature, and they are essential for learning to occur. Those who do not fail in the business world are the ones who never start any projects but are content with what their jobs offer.

2. People believe that failure has already occurred

For example, when I was in school, I thought that I had failed in learning some subjects. I failed physics and chemistry in the science section in the tenth grade. After that, I switched to the literary section and rose to the top of all my level's literary classes.

This experience taught me how to deal with the subjects and how to understand them better. I discovered that I didn't give those subjects enough attention, which is why I failed them.

3. People believe that others have the right to judge them for failure

When you make a mistake, whether with accounting numbers at work, missing a deadline, or behaving incorrectly with your children, what determines that this is the wrong behavior? Do you think about how much of a problem it caused or how much money you lost? Does it depend on how severely your boss reprimands you or how harshly your coworkers criticize you? Failure is not defined that way.

Only you can call what you do a failure. Failure is a personal matter, and your perception and reaction to your mistakes determine whether your actions are considered a failure or not.

Did you know that the majority of entrepreneurs never achieve success with their first project, let alone their second or third? Entrepreneurs fail in their businesses on average 3–8 times before they succeed, claims Professor Lisa Amos of Tulane University's School of Business.

They do not despair when faced with problems, mistakes, or difficulties because they do not count setbacks as failure. They realize that three steps forward and two steps backward still equal one step forward, so they go beyond the ordinary and become successful.

4. People believe that failure is the enemy

Most people try to avoid failure as if it were the plague. They are afraid of it, but adversity is required to achieve success. Coach Rick Peto expressed this by saying, "Failure is good. It is like compost that nourishes the ground. Everything I have learned about training was because of mistakes I have made."

Those who see failure as their enemy become prisoners of those who defeated it. Herbert Brockna says, “Those who never make a mistake receive their orders from those who make mistakes.” If you observe the behavior of any successful person, you will notice that they do not deal with mistakes as if they were enemies.

Skills to Overcome Failure

There are many skills and mindsets that you can learn to overcome failure, the most important of which are:

1. You can be whatever you want

Many people's early conditioning and upbringing make them doubt their ability to become wealthy. They may not have come from a wealthy family, but they interact with poor people who never imagined themselves becoming wealthy, as millions of other people have done before them.

2. Imagine the best

Many people wish, hope, dream, and imagine how different their lives would be if they had a lot of money. They admire and envy those around them who are better than them. They have money all the time but they never make a decisive decision to become rich. As a result, they do not extend their knowledge and skills to increase their value at work. Instead, they make excuses to justify their attitudes by claiming that success is simply a matter of “luck” that they lack.

3. Do not procrastinate

If this actually happens and they decide to become rich, they never start but procrastinate and move to this wonderful imaginary place called:

  • "I will do it one day."
  • “I will improve my knowledge and skills one day.”
  • “I will try harder and make myself more valuable one day.”
  • “I will pay my debts one day.”

They end up living in an "I will one day" state for the majority of their lives. One of the greatest secrets to success is to get out of your comfort zone, stop making excuses, and start making progress.

Overcome Failure

4. Self-confidence

Many people believe that if they set a goal to improve themselves financially, they will be ridiculed and criticized by those around them. They fear that these people will keep watching them and happily point out all the mistakes they make. They are so afraid of others' rejection, so they often do not try anything at all.

Here is the solution: When you decide to do a project or become rich, do not tell anyone. Keep it a secret, and start working on achieving your goal secretly. You can tell them when they see your life improving and ask you about how you did it.

5. Never stop learning and growing

To achieve something that you have never achieved before, you must learn and practice something that you have never done before. Knowledge and skill are the rungs on the success ladder. To become financially successful from scratch, you have to learn, develop, and practice a whole set of new skills that will allow you to become valuable and irreplaceable in your work.

Abraham Lincoln once said, “I will study and prepare myself, and someday my chance will come.” When you learn and prepare yourself, you will always have the opportunity to practice your new skills. However, it is up to you to develop them and continue to develop them throughout your life.

6. Perseverance and diligence

Most people don't persevere long enough to succeed. Successful people will tell you that the key to their success is that they refused to give up when things got tough. Instead, they persevered repeatedly, year after year, even in the face of total bankruptcy and financial ruin, without stopping.

Many people give up and stop trying just a few steps before the important turning point in their lives, after which they would have found great success. Persistence and determination are what guarantee that you will achieve all your financial goals.

Steve Siebold, author of How Rich People Think, said, “If you want to make a lot of money, find a big problem that a lot of people suffer from and come up with a new solution for it.”

Successful people have faced failure many times. Failure is an essential part of life. If you want to achieve your dreams in reality, you must face failure now by mastering the skills and ways of thinking that might help you overcome failure.
