You're not trying to avoid procrastination enough, which is normal, but you need to know a few things about it.

More than we realize, procrastination steals our joy. It is a hidden enemy that steals years from our lives, wears us out, and takes up hours of our days. If we find free time, we frequently cannot fully enjoy it because we constantly think about the tasks we have yet to complete.

Imagine it as a food. Imagine a sandwich with an ordinary taste, and you feel anxious every time you eat it. In addition, you have to drive an hour every day to buy it, and everything you eat after that sandwich loses some of its taste because of the remaining sandwich taste in your mouth.

What to do then? It's obvious that you should stop eating sandwiches.

Although procrastination has the same effect, we continue to allow this to happen. Sometimes, we are not fully aware of its impacts, but once we understand the danger of procrastination enough, we can start following strategies that help us overcome it.

Ways to stop procrastinating forever

1. Focus on what procrastination takes away from you

The first step to breaking the habit of procrastination is reminding yourself exactly what procrastination takes away from you, whether it's the time you spend with your family, the pleasure of work, or peace of mind.

Every time you procrastinate, you lose something, and once you realize that, you automatically become more motivated to get your work done.

2. Know your procrastination tactics

After you realize the dangers of procrastination, it is critical to examine your life objectively and become familiar with your procrastination techniques. You can use a journal to keep track of your procrastination strategies, such as using social media, texting, smoking, or taking snack breaks. We all have our mechanisms for procrastination, and once you know what these mechanisms are for you, you can develop a plan to reduce them.

If a site like Facebook is the one that is wasting most of your time, you can use the location blocker tool, and if it is texting, turn on silent mode on your phone. Whatever the problem, the first step is to consider why this happens.

3. Following a strategy in making decisions

Every day, we need to make dozens of decisions, so it is normal for this to take a lot of our time. However, it is crucial to adhere to a strategy when making decisions. As a result, the procedure moves along as quickly as possible without getting bogged down at every junction or putting off making decisions because of them.

You can create and use a decision-making matrix, which is essentially a roadmap to guide your decisions and speed up the process.

4. Creating a state of urgency

The motivation results from a state of natural or artificial urgency that occurs when you feel that you have work to do. You are usually exposed to a tangible threat in the case of urgency. For example, if you miss the deadline, you will be fired from your work, or if your house is burning, you must leave.

On the other hand, artificial urgency is a sense of urgency that you create yourself. For example:

  • Hold yourself responsible.
  • Remind yourself that you don't have unlimited time.
  • If necessary, stay away from those with whom you waste much time.

5. Set time limits for yourself

Most procrastinators suffer from the habit of postponing indefinitely, which is to delay their tasks under the title "someday" in their minds. To overcome this, you have to set time limits.

One way to overcome procrastination is to break down what you want to do into manageable steps and write down when you have to finish each of them. It is better to have specific consequences if you do not adhere to your schedule. It may seem simple, but it is known that people who write down their goals have a greater chance of achieving them. It is essential to commit in front of another person in this situation.
