Here are the 4 lies you keep telling yourself when you're afraid to do something:
1. I am not ready to do this:
Fear is a major obstacle for many entrepreneurs or businessmen in the early stages when they start planning or building their first projects. Without positive reinforcement, some people may feel powerless because of this fear, which discourages them from launching the product or service because they fear that what they sell is not good, and they lack self-confidence to overcome the feeling of discomfort, and to do so anyway.
But in reality, you are ready. Feeling annoyed is part of the process, and it is part of the journey. You will probably fail or face some difficulties, but without taking regular action, you will not be able to achieve anything. Systematic work is the key, so set deadlines for yourself, and start working. As businessman Gil Penchina says: “Momentum generates momentum, and the best way to start is to start.”
2. I have many ideas, but I have to wait until I have a good enough idea to get started:
Another big obstacle for many young entrepreneurs is to know where to focus their time, money, and energy. Most entrepreneurs don't have a lack of good ideas, but knowing where to focus their efforts is essential if they really want to become successful.
Instead of avoiding choosing one path and trying to reconcile three or four ideas, confine your idea to one area, and stick to it for a while to discover whether your idea will gain market interest. If you can ask a large enough segment of the market for their interest in a specific topic, and if they express interest in this topic even without buying anything, you should consider this as market acceptance of your services.
Finding a particular field is also an art in itself, but it is not impossible to learn it, and you must mix your current skill set or find something you can learn easily with what is needed in the market and what you care about. Once you find something that overlaps with these three areas, you will find a lucrative area for yourself.
3. This product has already been introduced before. I should not waste my time producing something else that people don't need:
Another problem people face when they think about creating their own business is learning how to sell, not just to others, but to themselves. It's possible that if you have an idea of a product, it can be effectively marketed and sold, and it will provide some value to those who use it.
Unfortunately, many people have a very weak self-image of their skills and knowledge, and whether or not what they have will be of value to others. Negative self-talk can have a strong impact on the success of your future business, so beware of its impact on you, and how often you find yourself slipping into this mentality.
To get out of this mindset, you have to think less about yourself, think more about the client, get used to not thinking too much about the skills you have or the skills you lack, and instead, think about the market and what clients need. When you decide to solve people's problems, you will be dedicated to serving them, and this is more useful than sitting down without work, and feeling sorry for yourself, as writer Napoleon Hill says: “The best way for others to accept you is to accept others first.”
4. It is too late to start working today. I will start early in the morning:
Everyone knows that the early morning hours are more productive, and with that in mind, it makes sense to start your day with tasks that will be more difficult, followed by tasks that are probably more enjoyable or less monotonous, yet that won't work for some people. Sometimes, it is difficult to wake up early in the morning, as you may not be those who like to wake up early.
Whatever the case, don't think you should wait for the right time. Starting now is always better than waiting. Certainly, you won't send information about a client to someone at 2 am, but if you're awake and able to spend 15 minutes searching for a specific topic, do so. Making small steps of progress over time can lead to lasting success.
In conclusion:
Whatever you say to yourself, understand that you are still responsible for your actions, and perhaps most importantly for your inaction. What is the result of inaction for which you will be responsible for if you decide to believe the lies you tell yourself regularly? And how can your life be different if you decide starting today to reject these lies?
