Note: This article is based on the work of the author Darius Foroux, in which he talks about his experience in getting rid of the excuses that were preventing him from achieving success.

Sometimes, we justify it by saying that we are tired, have an appointment with a doctor, or some commitment, but all these excuses and others are justifications for not wanting to do this or that.

We are often in good health, but we do not want to work, and our excuses are that we are tired or have other obligations that hide our desire to have fun and not do anything. These excuses are not bad, but their results spoil our lives. For example, you say to yourself that you will start a company but do not have enough money to establish it.

I wasted many years making excuses for not doing things I always wanted, for I was only afraid. So I wasted all those years without starting, and what makes us give ourselves justifications and excuses is our desire to evade responsibility.

We convince ourselves that the problem does not lie in us but rather in other people or the surrounding circumstances. We do anything and say anything to eliminate responsibility, shifting it onto others or circumstances.

In his new book AskGaryVee, American entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk says, “I'm struck by the sheer amount of excuses people make to justify their failures,” and he's right. Humans have an amazing ability to make excuses.

15 excuses I made myself in the past that I got rid of

1. I don't have time

This is one of the most common excuses, and other excuses arise from it. We all have the same number of hours in the day, the same number of days in the week, the same number of weeks in the month, and the same number of months in the year, so why do some people get their jobs done and others fail?

Those who do their tasks do not waste their time, do not plead from now on that you do not have time, and be honest with yourself; if you have something that you do not want to do, admit it instead of saying that you do not have time, just say I want to watch TV.

Making excuses

2. I don't have money

This is a logical reason, but the problem is that we consider it a hindrance rather than an opportunity; not having money can be a real opportunity to achieve success, and yet most people see it as a hindrance because not having enough money is a wonderful thing, you are not risking anything, Then you can experiment, be creative and learn from your mistakes.

3. I am very tired

Unless you are sick, this is an uglier excuse than guilt; a friend of mine told me a while ago that he is exhausted and can't play football with his 5-year-old son, but I scolded him, and it was useful; he got over his laziness, and started playing football with his son, what changed for him? Nothing , he replaced the long hours of watching TV with the hours of playing with his son, and his health improved.

4. I live in a small town

I grew up in a small town, and I believe that a person who can succeed in a small town can succeed anywhere; The saying, “Success can only be achieved in big cities”, is a myth. You don't need to commute anywhere as long as you live in the age of the Internet.

5. I live in a poor country

Your country may rank last on the happiness scale and be a developing country, but did you know that the global economy does not affect you as an individual? Also, it is unnecessary to start realizing your dreams in the most significant industrial or commercial complexes. Investors with huge capital are not waiting for you to provide financial support until you succeed.

6. My parents don't help me

Be grateful for the help you receive, no matter how small, and remember that many successful people are orphans.

7. My partner does not support me

Having a partner is support in itself; you are not alone, but if your partner does not trust you, prove to him that he is wrong by achieving success.

8. I have children

I did not make this excuse for myself, as I have no children yet, but I have heard many make it; They say that children are why they do not dare to take risks and then give up on their dreams. There is no logic in not taking risks. If you are doing this for the benefit of your children, then you are wrong. You should dare and try to achieve your dreams if you want them to have a better future.

9. I have a job

We all have jobs, but that doesn't mean you can't do anything besides that; It doesn't stop you from working on your project in the evenings or on weekends.

Making excuses

10. I have no previous experience

You wouldn't even want to work with the stereotypical people who ask for previous experience as a requirement; we're not in the 90s anymore, experience doesn't mean anything, and skill and execution are what everyone is looking for; I personally know 19-year-olds who are much more skilled in sales than 50-year-olds.

11. I am useless

You will remain, so as long as you say that to yourself, know that what you say will come true; So stop believing you are a failure.

12. My appearance is unattractive

Appearance is just a luxury; suavity and personality are what count.

13. I do not have an appropriate level of education

People don't care about your level of education, and if they are, don't work for them.

14. I belong to a minority

There are many successful people who are from ethnic minorities and whatnot, but they are too many, so you are one of them.

15. I am overweight

I've been like this for a long time, but I got rid of obesity by running every day.

In conclusion

Making excuses is a very bad habit ; it spoils your life, and the worst thing is that you spoil your life through this habit.

Benjamin Franklin, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States of America (USA), put it best: “A man who is good at making excuses is seldom good at anything else”.

No one wants to be a failure, So think before you make up an excuse. Is this excuse a real reason preventing you from accomplishing what you want? Most likely, the answer will be no. I know this because I used to justify myself in the past, and I know people who were in difficult circumstances, but they achieved success, so why can't you also succeed?
