The Mentality of Abundance: Its Secrets and Adoption in Our Lives

If every person in the world lived as the people in Europe did, we would need three planets in order to provide for their needs.

Note: This article is by blogger Kaya Olsen, in which she discusses how to achieve abundance for everyone in the world.

If everyone lived like people do in America, we would need five planets. Although Peter Diamandis, a businessman, visionary, and expert, is certain that everything is conceivable in the future, it is even more probable that it will occur.

But what if we are using more resources than our planet can supply?

The answer to this question is accelerating thinking, accelerating technologies, and accelerating strategies. If we think broadly about the right use of tools and the right kind of mindset, we can create a sustainable world that provides more than enough for everyone.

Accelerated thinking

We are used to chain thinking. This is because the natural world is structured in a sequential way. For example, if you save two dollars every day for 30 days, you will have $60 at the end of the thirty days. This is chain growth.

The alternative assumption is exponential growth. As the money multiplies successively every day, instead of getting that $60 at the end of the thirty days, you will get a huge amount of money, but you may think that this is not possible.

However, this is the way things are at the moment. With the advent of accelerating technologies, organizations, projects, and trends are growing at an exponential speed. It may not seem like it at the moment. Things are changing, but not surprisingly quickly, and that is only because we are still in the early stages. We are still in the process of doubling the money, but in five years, that money could turn into huge sums. It may be a slow start, but the trend will change dramatically.

Accelerated thinking

Seeing the world and its opportunities from this point of view is how accelerated thinking works. It's easy to fall prey to chain thinking, and that was the way the world used to develop, but with the advent of accelerating technologies, accelerated growth has become increasingly normal, as the most successful companies have done today, such as Amazon, Apple, AirBnB, and others.

They have all managed to grow exponentially. This is because it does not work serially; it sells things that it does not own, and then this would enable these companies to expand tremendously and at a tremendous speed and provide a platform for others to buy and sell products. This is what makes their business model accelerate and enables them to have such a big impact in our world.

Accelerated Technologies

To work on an accelerated scale, it requires accelerated technologies, and in the case of the aforementioned companies, artificial intelligence and big data enhance their success. Other accelerated technologies that can provide the same level of effectiveness are 3D printing, Virtual and Augmented Reality, Drones, Biotechnology, Blockchain, Nanotechnology, Robotics and so on.

The reason these technologies give you the ability to grow exponentially has to do with a phenomenon described by Moore's Law. As this law stipulates, the technical force exerted doubles every year. So either the technology increases its efficiency (it becomes faster and more powerful) or it maintains its level of efficiency but becomes cheaper (you get more for less). This means your reach and influence are likely to double each year.

What is required to advance along the exponential growth curve is the utilization of near-infinite resources. This is why technologies are so important in this context. Almost the only thing that is needed from big data, artificial intelligence, and the blockchain is the conversion of power and energy into a digital form. Due to Moore's Law, the power of computers doubles every year, and if we start using solar energy on a larger scale, we will also get an almost inexhaustible source for our energy needs.

Accelerated Technologies

This is what makes these technologies a requirement in a world where everything is available. They are the tools we need to turn our finite resources into infinite ones. If all we need is energy, recyclable resources, and technical equipment, abundance is possible.

Anet Londova of the Moonshot Pirates writes, “If you dream small, you take one piece of the pie without adding anything to it; if you dream big, you will make the pie bigger, and you'll have enough for everyone.”

Accelerated Strategies

However, technology is not enough. It is one thing to have the equipment you need, but it is quite another to have enough people, enough money, and enough time to use the equipment for your accelerated ends. You can increase the time invested in your project by increasing the number of people working on it, but people must be found and paid.

This may make this path seem somewhat unfeasible, and then here comes the role of accelerated strategies, and these are the working methods that rely on communities to get things done.

Here are some examples that give you an idea of how this works:

1. Crowdfunding

Finding a single partner to cover all the costs of your project is one path to take; finding a million small contributors is another. Both have advantages and disadvantages, but what makes crowdfunding so powerful is that you build a community around your project at the same time as you raise money from it.

2. Crowdsourcing

Passionate people are everywhere; you just need to know where to look for them, and crowdsourcing platforms bring together hobbyists and artisans and connect them to projects they want to voluntarily support.

For example, Wikipedia relies entirely on crowdsourcing. Articles are written, evaluated, and managed by volunteers who simply want to contribute, so if a company wanted to produce, translate, and edit all the content available on Wikipedia today on its own, it would take forever.

There are many platforms that you can use as an accelerating strategy for your projects, such as: Kickstarter, IndieGoGo, Patreon, Upwork, Gigster, TopCoder, etc. It gives people pleasure to work on something useful, and if you also give benefits in your campaign, then you are on the right track.

Conclusion

We are using more resources than our planet can provide us at the moment, but that is only because we are using these resources in an inefficient way based on chain thinking.

Our thinking was very limited, our technological progress was not at the required level, and our operational strategies focused on human power to no avail. It is time to review the way we work, start thinking fast, and then achieve abundance for all.
