3 Tips to Discover and Possess Creativity

Some people have been described as creative from an early age and have carried this trait with them throughout their lives, while others have been described as lacking creativity and have also carried this trait with them throughout their lives.

We won't be considered creative if we don't show early indications of genius in a kindergarten drawing class. Children who draw well are praised and labelled as creative, while other kids just sit and watch their friends, thinking they'll never be that way.

While it is true that not everyone was meant to be a writer, painter, or singer, one of the most widespread misconceptions is that someone who is creative has to be an exceptionally talented writer, painter, or singer. All it takes is to discover and develop a particular kind of creativity we are all born with.

Redefining the Meaning of Creativity

Creativity can be anything that has meaning to you, meaning there can be creativity in anything you do, including math, relationships, travel, customer service, cleaning, work, or anything that brings you joy, satisfaction, or a sense of accomplishment. Anything can be your way of expressing creativity.

Studies show that having a creative hobby can boost brain activity, help deal with stress, and promote overall wellness and positivity. For those who have convinced themselves that they are not creative, these benefits might seem far-fetched. However, when you redefine creativity, the possibilities become endless.

Another misconception about creativity is that there must be a result that others can see or admire, such as a painting, a novel, or a song. For those creative people who have never held a paintbrush or played an instrument, it is still possible to find the joy of creativity in the creative thinking process.

The secret to letting your inner artist come out is to think creatively. Creative thinking is the process of considering a new perspective on the problem to generate new, unconventional solutions. If you give the issue a lot of thought, you'll find that you frequently use this kind of creativity. When your car breaks down and you have to go to work, you think outside the box and devise ways to get there. When a recipe calls for strawberries, and you don't have any, you make a delicious blackberry pie instead. These are easy, creative things that we can do every day. You are already on the way to possessing creativity.

To truly benefit from this part of yourself, you'll need to explore the things that bring you joy. Reversing years of inner creative denial and eliminating the inner voice that says, "I don't think I'm creative," might require some effort. You'll experience the advantages of a creative life once you've found one thing you can truly dedicate yourself to.

Three tips on how to discover your creativity

For those who don't know what sparks creativity in them, here are three tips on how to discover your creativity:

1. Express your creativity

To be creative, you must first learn particular ways to express yourself. You may still discover your creative abilities, so they may not be evident. Even though you may be very good at something, you might not think it deserves recognition.

To express your unique creativity, ask yourself these questions:

  • What is it that gives my life meaning?
  • What brings me joy?
  • What atmosphere or situation naturally attracts me?
  • What makes me special?
  • What do my friends like about me?
  • What do I dream about every day?

You might answer by saying something like cooking, gardening, being a good listener, doing hair, making people happy, or being an organised person. All of these things are creative endeavours. All it takes is first recognising the art you master and expressing it.

2. Master the things that spark creativity in you

It's time to act like a creative artist and treat your newly discovered creative abilities like a masterpiece. It is essential that you appreciate how your talent shines. Creativity becomes more powerful when you think outside the box and discover new ways to express your talent.

For example, you might realise that being a wonderful friend is where your creativity resides. Ask yourself: "What does your friendship look like? What about your interaction with your friends?" You might say something like, "I'm trustworthy," "I like to support my friends," "I like offering them advice," or "I like coming up with ideas for how to make them feel special."

Take pride in your individuality and believe that it distinguishes you from other artists and individuals who do the same thing.

3. Think outside the box

You can begin implementation as soon as you master the creative aspects of your personality. Creativity becomes more powerful when you think outside the box and explore new ways to express your talent. For example, how can you find new ways to experience this pleasure if you feel creative when spending time in nature?

Try drawing a scene from nature. If you live in a city, you should grow some plants to enjoy in the winter or spend some time on the weekends exploring the green areas between the buildings. There are countless and many options.
