7 Obstacles Standing in the Way of the Life You Want

I've always wanted to write and share my experiences with others about living the life I want, but I've been unable to do so for a long time.

Note: This article is by the blogger Vishnu, in which he discusses seven barriers preventing us from living the life we want.

I admired what some successful writers did when I observed their lives, and I wished I could do the same when I observed what other writers and bloggers did with their online work. And then, after years of doing nothing, I realized there were some differences between the writers I admired and myself.

I also noticed that what prevented me from achieving what they achieved had little to do with natural ability; it had more to do with mentality, and I would stop myself from writing because I didn't want it enough, and even if I wanted it enough, I never even started.

Seven obstacles standing in your way

What is stopping you from living your dreams? And what's stopping you from getting started?

You paint a picture of your life full of great ideas that can change the world and improve people's lives, but if you don't implement these ideas, you will lose and the world will lose.

There are seven obstacles standing in your way, which are:

1. Taking action on the life you want

Even though you may enjoy daydreaming or imagining the possibilities, you are unable to put your idea or vision into action. Even the most brilliant ideas you have about what is possible for you are worthless if you don't take action on them. Action fuels dreams, but typically it goes like this:

When you get a brilliant idea, you consider its specifics, you consider all the difficulties it presents, and then you keep it in your head along with other amazing ideas that you want to start with one day, but that day never comes.

You paint a picture of your life full of great ideas that can change the world and improve people's lives, but if you don't implement these ideas, you will lose and the world will lose. Remember that you don't need to do everything at once. Rather, it suffices to do one thing today, which is to start. Today, take the smallest step you can imagine, take a bigger step tomorrow, and keep moving forward.

2. Holding yourself accountable

After you start, in order to succeed, you have to hold yourself accountable. What does accountability mean, and who should you be accountable to? Accountability is doing the thing you said you would do, and the only person you have to be held accountable to is yourself.

Some people may feel overwhelmed by the goals they want to achieve, and if you are one of those people who are overwhelmed by goals, deliberately do something you love every day. For example, instead of your goal being “to complete an e-book in a month,” let it be “to write every day.” If your goal is to become more mindful, try a few minutes of meditation a day. If you feel like running a 5-mile run, stick to running one mile every two days.

Have you noticed how highly successful people get things done? They figure out what they're going to do and how they're going to do it, then commit to doing it, relying on simple statements of encouragement like, "I'm not going to let myself down; I'm going to do what I said I'm going to do." Other high performers rely on teachers, mentors, and coaches to hold themselves accountable. So set yourself small goals that you can achieve every day.

If you are facing an obstacle while doing something or are not regular in accomplishing your task, think carefully and ask yourself, “What are the obstacles I am facing? And what can help me get rid of these obstacles?”

3. Sharing your thoughts with others

When you have a dream or a vision, it may require you to share it with others, but sharing your creative or entrepreneurial projects with others is scary. This is because we care so much about what other people think.

I write to help others live their lives with honesty and spontaneity, knowing that not everyone will like my writing. There are always people who think badly of you or want to criticize you, but you have to start looking inside instead of looking around. So do things and take the action that matters to you, no matter what other people think.

Sharing your thoughts

4. Lack of a compelling “why”

Are you one of those people who starts new projects but never finishes them? Do you have great ideas, start with them, but don't finish them either? Your success depends on two things: why you do the thing you do, and why you do it consistently.

In order to keep doing what you are doing, you have to know why. What is the reason for doing what you are doing, and is your dream or project in line with your purpose? In other words, do your values support your dream? Is your dream something important to you and consistent with your purpose in life?

Be clear about why the dream you're building is important, and make sure it's not something you read about in newspapers or blogs. This is because what is suitable for another person is not necessarily suitable for you. So be very clear about the reason so that you don't give up after a couple of days.

If the project you're doing stays in line with what's important to you, you'll feel more inclined to pursue it. So do something small, but regularly, and do it at the same time every day and raise the level of importance.

When you know how your actions relate to the dreams of your life, stick to them, organize your priorities, and tell people around you what you are doing. Be accountable to them. If you fail for a week or a month, start over and keep going.

5. Fear of failure

The more you fail, the more you will know what does not work and what it takes to succeed.

It is likely that you will not start any projects or work towards your dreams. This is because you fear failure. You don't want to start anything, whether it's a career, a dream, or an ambitious goal, without knowing what the outcome will be.

You see all the obstacles and challenges; you read about the people who failed; and you look at the statistics of things that didn't work. You don't want to waste your time, money, and energy on resources for a failed project unless you know you won't fail at all.

Working towards your dreams is, in and of itself, a success. Being able to do the things you desire inside of you or pursue your dreams is meaningful in and of itself. Creating, building, or striving to achieve your dream can never be a failure. Failure means improving your dreams and goals; it means experience, learning, and that you tried; and it means living a life without regrets.

If you are able to change your view of what failure means, you will look forward to failure, and the more you fail, the more you will know what does not work and what it takes to succeed.

6. Wanting to know all the answers

When you're taking on an ambitious new venture, launching a business, or releasing an e-book, you want to know all the answers early on. That is, you will want to know how long it will take you to work on any of these projects, what plans and supplies you will need, and what legal problems can spoil your plans. You want someone to tell you, even before you start doing anything, whether your idea will succeed or fail.

There you have it! Although it is natural to want to have supernatural abilities in order to know the results of things before you do them, you will never know what the future holds for you until you reach it, and in order to reach the future in a distinctive way, focus on the present. You have a gift in the present time that overcomes any obstacle or challenge that may face your dreams; it is your intuition.

So instead of focusing on future problems and circumstances over which you have no control, listen to your inner voice of wisdom and advice in every moment. As your inner voice is your facilitator, guide, and clairvoyant, allow it to answer the questions you face and guide you to success.

7. Being satisfied with your current situation

If you were comfortable where you are today, you would not begin to achieve your dreams, and you would not have the drive or desire to make changes in your life.

As for me, if I insisted on writing daily blogs or on writing for myself instead of publishing my work, I would not start writing for others if I were so comfortable with the jobs I've had over the years that I quit to spend months working on my writing.

Change is uncertain, unknown, and uncomfortable, and we would all rather stay in our comfort zone than look forward to an unknown future.

If you are ready to make changes in your life, you must be willing to explore the unknown, you must be willing to sacrifice and take risks, and you must be willing to work hard and try new things.
