3 Steps to Improve Your Way of Thinking

The mind provides the power to improve when it sees it as absolutely necessary, so when you predict that you will have difficulty taking a certain action, the trick is to focus on the situation first without thinking and predicting what will happen, or else you will make excuses that can prevent your brain from the opportunity of getting involved in the situation in the first place, and then the mind will be alert and motivated to solve any problem you face.

But what if getting involved in a situation wasn’t enough, and the mind refused to take the action you want by making negative predictions and excuses? Most people stop there, but all you have to do is write down these excuses, then replace them with ideas that make it easier to take action and take their side. The normal method you can use here is to think about how to do it, while the deeper method is to ask yourself: What should I think about to do it? You always know what is the right thing to do, but you also need the backing of your mind.

To do this, try the three steps below:

1. Take action:

Put yourself in certain situations without thinking and predicting what will happen, and try to take action so that your mind is engaged in solving the challenges you face.

2. Take notes:

If you can’t take action, notice the thoughts and excuses your mind makes up in the situation you face.

3. Improve:

Try to criticize the reality of those thoughts, and replace them with helpful ones instead.

Some examples:

  • Suppose you want to learn to play a new instrument, but every time you think of it, your mind tells you that it is very difficult because you did not start at a young age. You can counteract this by adopting the belief that people only grow old when they stop learning new things. Look for famous or successful people who have become successful at an older age.
  • You meet a great person during your day and you want to get to know them more. Your mind may object to that idea because you think you will distract them from their work. Instead, you have to realize that this may be an opportunity for you and not a disturbance to the other person, and amazing things may happen if you do something.
  • You are so busy studying under pressure to get high grades that you feel like you can’t go on anymore, and your mind is telling you all the time that job offers aren’t available for graduates with normal grades. Instead of that, remind yourself why you started in the first place, and enjoy your studies to achieve your primary goal which may earn you higher grades.

When you are trying to do something that scares you, believing that it is not difficult to do can be very helpful.

Repeat the steps as many times as necessary, but don’t give up until you get the results you want. Each time you take these steps, even if you don’t take any external action, internal changes will occur to you, and soon enough parts of your brain will be working to naturally take the action you want because you have a system of self-directed thoughts that all point in the direction of taking action .

If you feel that the new ideas you are posing are not realistic, you must realize that this is not true. This is because every subjective matter is explained according to each person’s point of view, and there is no objective truth, so do what you think is necessary and beneficial to you in your own reality, and establish the beliefs and rules that help you support yourself. There is always a way to change ideas to work for you.

If there is an idea that pushes you forward, take advantage of it, and if there is an idea that hinders you, try to get rid of it and replace it with an idea that motivates you immediately. As long as you have a clear goal, the mind will work to achieve everything you want.

“A man who wants to lead an orchestra must turn his back on the crowd.” – Author Max Lucado. In life, you are the band, and you lead yourself.

In conclusion:

If you feel too reluctant to take action despite changing all beliefs, there is one last way, the just-do-it method. If you’ve been thinking about something for a long time, it’s worth doing, so you don’t have to regret it later. Go against the logic and the risk-versus-reward and just do it, as you’ll feel so much better afterwards.
