How to Be So Talented That No One Can Ignore You?
“No one ever noticed (my advice) because it was not the answer they wanted to hear; what they want to hear is, ‘Here is how to get a client’ and ‘Here is how to write a story,’ but I always say, ‘Be talented so no one can ignore you’.” - Steve Martin, an American actor.
Note: This article is based on the work of Erin Falconer, in which she tells us about the impact of talent and passion on achieving success.
What Makes a Talent?
I still vividly remember my last year at university. I wrote my latest research about a prominent figure I admired at the time. I remember perfectly a phrase from a book I read translated from Italian into English.
It says, "His talent made even the blind know him." I felt it was a suitable description of a person with a remarkable talent, and this phrase remained engraved in my memory as a measure of the individual's influence in the world.
The person who discovered talent and success in detail is the author, Cal Newport. In his highly acclaimed book, So Good They Can't Ignore You, Newport calls for the skill to practice to earn career capital rather than pursuing a passion.
In the book, he summarizes the cases of people who sought their passion but unfortunately failed to pursue their professional success. According to Newport, they failed to possess the professional skills necessary to present their product or service to the market, and he believes that passion alone is not enough to ensure success; there must be supportive foundations to ensure the business's success.
The comedian genius Steve Martin coined the phrase: "Be talented so that no one can ignore you." He was advising a group of novice actors at the time, but he was able to offer something more important than artistic guidance, which is talent. Martin's advice means that when you are skilled, you will leave the world with no choice but to notice your genius.
It is enough to look at recent young music stars to know how many will succeed. I was lucky to follow the rise of Bob Dylan in my time and his influence in music. Dylan brilliantly combined poetry and music, so he invented a new genre and defined music as lyric poetry.
The term "cream floats" is used to express the impossibility of not paying attention to the good idea or the good person, just as it is impossible not to pay attention to the cream floating on the surface of the milk cup.
With the emergence of a new idea, which reviewers and critics praise as exciting and funny, the talent of basketball player Michael Jordan has made him a celebrity, and he is engraved in the memory of sports enthusiasts. His skill has become a measure of athletic mastery at present.
“What amateurs attribute to genius, professionals attribute to practice"—author Robin Sharma.

Continuous improvement
It is no secret that athletes have an indomitable will to succeed; long hours of training and discipline qualify them to perform their best on the day of the competition.
In a similar vein, global athletes are another type of super athlete whose training spans decades to compete in a single event, and often all their training is to deliver outstanding performance in a few seconds of the game, so they fully understand the gap between success and failure. That may seem harsh, but gold medals are never awarded for second place.
The question that follows is: "How can you be motivated by the greatness of others?" For starters, take the advice of Carol Dweck, who wrote the book Mindset. Carol suggests making continuous improvements in your chosen field by developing a growth mindset instead of a fixed one. Essentially, you have to distract yourself from getting the award and make continuous and gradual improvements that eventually lead you to achieve your goal.
For example, if you are a musician and focus on continuous practice to sharpen your musical skills, perseverance in practice may mean having a good time in training while noticing the main aspects that require improvement. A golfer who lacks strength in throwing should focus his attention on mastering throwing with the aim of making continuous improvements over time.
Search for professionals, mentors, knowledgeable technicians, and anyone else who can help you get better while keeping the process of mastery in mind. Over time, incremental gains add up to produce spectacular outcomes.
Full dedication
It is natural that athletes competing at the international level are equally talented, so what distinguishes them?
Skilled players are committed to dedication, sleep, nutrition, mental and emotional resilience, courage, and determination, to name a few, and despite the abundance of these characteristics, having them over time leads to world-class success.
As is frequently the case, you may put in countless hours and make the necessary sacrifices to accomplish your goal, but you still fail to be successful. Remember, fate plays a big role, which means timing is essential. Before showcasing your talent to the world, you might need to gain additional knowledge in particular fields, so be patient and wait for your moment.
In conclusion
Live your passion, embody it in your life, think about it day and night, think about it before bed, and when you wake up, dream about it, and make it an extension of your spirit and personality so that you are talented and no one can ignore you.
