The Value of Self-Awareness for Entrepreneurs

Do you find entrepreneurship appealing? Do you enjoy being free? Does this inspire you to launch your own company? Nobody wants that more than you do.

Most people have been chasing the same goal ever since businessman Tim Ferriss published his book The 4-Hour Work Week, in which he popularized the idea of a business style.

We all want to be able to start and grow a business, work from home with a virtual assistant, and earn money while we sleep or travel the world, so most people's main job is to show you how to do it. They offer advice like:

  1. "Follow these 20 steps, and you'll earn a lot of money."
  2. “If you follow this online course, you can become wealthy quickly and without working.”
  3. "Here's how I make an extra $100,000 per month while traveling the world."

Being an entrepreneur is difficult

Have you considered launching a business? Do you want more freedom to be your own boss because you're sick of working nonstop from 9 to 5?

You have every reason to start a business, but you also need a few other things. It was stated  that 96% of businesses fail within ten years. I Googled it and found that this information does not appear to be supported by research, though perhaps one person made the claim once and others repeated it.

However, there is some validity to this. You play the long game of entrepreneurship for the rest of your life. Although I have started businesses in the past that failed, I am still an entrepreneur.

Self-Awareness for Entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurship is a trait of your personality, not something you do

What is my passion? This is the question you must ask yourself.

Despite the fact that this article is about entrepreneurship, it applies to all aspects of life. Self-awareness is necessary for developing a successful career or business. You should think about whether your personality is better suited to quiet study, reflection, and awareness of the direction your natural strengths lead you.

We frequently act for the wrong reasons: money, reputation, calm, and outside pressure. In life, it is better to be yourself, but in order to do that, you must first know who you are. Then, build your life around who you are, not what you or anyone else wants.

For example, I've always run my own business. I was always busy when I was a child. I recall making copies of CDs, printing brochures, and offering them for sale at a discount. I was unaware that it was illegal at the time because that is just how I am.

So who are you?

Inquire within yourself:

  1. Why do I want to start a business?
  2. Do I want to be an entrepreneur or am I just drawn to the benefits like freedom, time, or money ?
  3. Do I want to acquire the abilities I will require to succeed? As an entrepreneur, you must have a fundamental understanding of every aspect of your company's operations.

If you're thinking about starting a business, try talking to some local business owners and asking them what they do on a typical day before making your choice. Don't do this after watching a video of a fool trying to live "the life" or after reading some inspirational sayings. On Instagram, this is fiction rather than entrepreneurship.

It takes a lot of work to start a business, but it is not impossible for someone who is determined to do so through the following:

  1. Research: Does your product really need to be sold? There is nothing new in this world, so if they don't need it, it's probably because they don't care.
  2. production: Focus on just one good or service; there's no need for intricate items with 10,000 different forms.
  3. Selling: It's true that entrepreneurs are essentially independent salespeople.

Finally, if you want to introduce new products, repeat this simple process over and over again. It's difficult to put into practice, but it's worthwhile.
