Zig was born in Covington County, Alabama, on the 6th of November, 1926. He was the youngest child of "John Silas Zigler" and "Lila Westcon Zigler," and had 11 siblings.

He spent most of his early childhood years in Yazoo City, Mississippi, after his father obtained an administrative position on a Mississippi farm in 1931 when Zig was just five years old. However, His father died of a heart attack when he was young, and his younger sister passed away two days later.

He attended college at the University of South Carolina and later joined the military, completing his service in the United States Navy and participating in World War II.

After the end of World War II, "Zig" began his professional life. He started working as a salesperson for various companies and eventually rose to the position of Vice President of Automotive Performance. Later, he ventured into the field of human development, participating in motivational seminars and becoming one of the most prominent and effective motivational speakers in the world.
