3 Daily Steps for Achieving Success
A new girl named Sara joined the track and field races when I was a freshman in high school. Her doctor advised her to participate in these races to lose weight, maintain her health, and prevent overweight-related diseases.
Note: This article is taken from Angel Chernoff's blog, where she talks about 3 daily steps to achieve success in all areas of life.
Sara looked in astonishment at the participating students and decided to withdraw. The coach followed her and brought her back. She objected, saying, “My weight prevents me from participating in this sport! I won't be able to lose enough weight and reach the required fitness level. I've tried repeatedly, but I've failed.”
The coach agreed with her and told her she needed to lose approximately 20 kilograms. Sara appeared puzzled and asked, "Most people tell me I must lose 65 kilograms. Do you really think 20 kilograms will be enough?"
The coach nodded, affirming once more how accurate his statement was.
Sara committed to running and training with the rest of the running team daily. Her competitive personality drove her, and by the end of the year, she successfully shed around 20 kg. She secured second place in the county-level running race. Three years later, she achieved third place in the same race, reaching her ideal weight by then.
Sara had faced failure multiple times, losing confidence in herself and her ability to lose weight. She believed she would remain in that state forever. However, she regained her self-confidence and achieved what had previously seemed impossible through commitment, perseverance, and making the right daily decisions.
I was thrilled when Sara showed up for my 40th birthday party, and a guest praised her fitness and physical well-being. Of course, Sara continues to work diligently, making wise daily choices to maintain the ideal weight she worked so hard to achieve.
Losing Confidence After Experiencing Failure
Sometimes, people may stumble, experience disappointment, become resentful and defeated, and occasionally lose faith in themselves. However, they should minimize the impact of this negative response in their lives, take responsibility for what happened, draw lessons from it, invest in developing their skills and knowledge, and try again.
Here are four examples of individuals falling short in their lives:
- You may not always maintain a healthy diet and exercise, but you keep trying.
- You may sometimes struggle with self-love, but you refuse to give up and try again.
- You may fall short in fulfilling your duties toward your children and family, especially when exhausted and busy with work, but you persistently try and ultimately secure a happy life for your family.
- Personally, I failed in writing this article initially and discarded the first version because it didn't meet the required quality. However, I tried again and succeeded—here you are reading my article.
The Bottom Line
People succeed in achieving their goals and find long-term satisfaction when they persistently try and don't surrender to failed attempts. So, keep trying, seize all available opportunities each day, and you will eventually achieve your goals.
3 Daily Steps for Achieving Success
1. Commit to Constructive Daily Habits
Most personal achievements are based on simple routines and daily habits, whether in work, relationships, marriage, or family life.
Success doesn’t happen overnight, regardless of talent or expertise. So, you become successful over time by being willing to try repeatedly and by adopting small daily habits that gradually propel you forward in all situations, regardless of life circumstances or your personal success definition.
Therefore, commit to success-supportive daily habits and routines. Remember that just like success, failure comes gradually. Daily setbacks that are accumulated and not learned from can eventually result in abrupt and serious failure.
Here are 5 destructive habits that lead to business failure when repeated:
- Neglecting to check books.
- Postponing important phone calls.
- Ignoring customer demands and needs consistently.
- Refusing to update and innovate.
- Failing to perform routine small tasks necessary for success.
Over time, this carelessness and neglect may cause an abrupt and unplanned business failure. Such catastrophic failure often stems from accumulating simple daily habits and actions rather than a specific isolated event.
Many people overestimate the turning points and critical decisions in their lives. However, they often underestimate the impact of daily decisions and actions that help them progress toward their desired goals.
Remind yourself continually that most experiences—both successful and unsuccessful—depend on the small decisions you make in your daily life over time. So, our daily routines and actions shape our future.
2. Focus Less on Results and Ultimate Goals
People should approach their goals gradually, step by step, and deliberately. However, some people tend to rush and desire to achieve their ultimate goal as quickly as possible.
In the modern age, patience and endurance have become scarce commodities. People want instant results, leading to hasty decisions and taking on tasks beyond their capacity. Consequently, they may eventually fail. For example, someone might aspire to achieve a significant goal or multiple goals simultaneously but struggle to commit to even one or two habits necessary for achieving these goals. As a result, they make little progress and gradually lose confidence in themselves and their abilities.
Success comes when people consistently apply small, repeated steps that gradually lead them toward their ultimate objectives. Success doesn’t happen overnight, but commitment accelerates progress. Therefore, shifting focus from grand goals to daily habits and actions that bring those goals to fruition is essential.
Here are four examples of goals and accompanying habits:
- Athletes strive to win in sports competitions, requiring daily commitment to physical and mental training.
- University students aim to learn and earn degrees, necessitating regular study habits.
- Parents seek to set a positive example for their children, which involves consistent behavior and demonstrating good habits daily.
- People naturally desire purposeful lives. To achieve this, they must adhere to daily habits that allow gradual progress toward their ultimate life goals.
But what would happen if you put less emphasis on your big life goals and more on your daily habits? Will you still advance?
For example, if your goal is to lose weight, but all you focus on is eating well and working out every day, rather than the end result, will you lose the desired weight?
Certainly! This approach will gradually help you reach your ideal weight. However, what if you falter or neglect your daily commitments?
In that case, acknowledge your mistakes, take responsibility, forgive yourself, and try again.
3. Restore and Maintain Self-Belief
Restoring and maintaining self-belief is undoubtedly the greatest benefit of consistently practicing daily habits that contribute to gradual progress toward our goals. In the past, I also had trouble maintaining these daily routines. At times, I lacked confidence in achieving the goals I aspired to. I tried various quick solutions that ultimately led to failure, eroding my self-confidence. I found myself procrastinating and shirking responsibilities, even breaking self-imposed promises. Eventually, I lost confidence in myself and my abilities because I failed to achieve my goals and fulfill the promises I made to myself.
In such situations, people must exert great effort to regain self-confidence and faith in their abilities gradually. This involves setting small goals, implementing daily actions, and celebrating incremental successes. Although this process takes time, it succeeds through perseverance and commitment, ultimately leading to profound changes in one’s life.
In Conclusion
Now is your moment to try again, committing to those daily habits that will propel you toward your goals. Embrace the small steps and gradual progress day by day.
This persistence will yield great results and foster contentment and gratitude for your achievements. It will also cultivate self-confidence and maintain the ambition to continue working, committing, and progressing.
